Xiaomi Mi 5 Dual Sim 4g/3g Not 4g/2g

Having just broken my Huawei mate 8, and with the Australian 2g network due to be switched off in the next 12 months, I'm trying to find a dual sim phone where the second sim runs on 3g not 2g.

I've read that the Xiaomi Mi5 is 4g/3g (4g on 1 sim, 3g on the second) due to the SD820 chipset able to do this. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, is this the only phone? Both the s7, s7 edge and g5 all have the SD820, so I'm wondering if anyone can confirm any of this.

Thanks!

  • I have read the same.
It is a feature of the SD820 chipset, but the S7's and LG G5 don't have Dual SIM capability at all, (ie only have 1 SIM slot), so obviously can't utilise the feature.
There's another Chinese brand, formerly known as LeTV, now LeEco, with a model Le Max 2 recently announced that will also have this Simultaneous 4G Dual SIM feature with the SD820.

  • Would need a decent battery to support 3G and 4G unless they figured out how to get some ultra-low power mode in 3G (or they just disabled the data component altogether). I guess technically you only need 1 line for data (4G) and 1 for voice (3G)

  • Add OnePlus3 to the list of dual sim phone which has 2g/3g/4g on one sim and 2g/3g on another sim

  • Just read this listing that says the Xiaomi mi max has this feature. Can anyone confirm?

  • The LG G5 H860N overseas version is dual sim. From these specs it says the second Sim doesn't support 3G/4G, though it supports the basic bands (2G) which I think will/is replaced by 4G. Can anyone confirm whether the second Sim slot can be used for calls, even when telcos close 2G?

    • I was told the G5 is a 4g+2g phone, which in theory means the phone call function on the 2g sim wont work once they shut down the 2g network

  • I'd like to know about this too; as I need to propose dual sim to my work soon

  • Moto G4 is dual-SIM and 4G/3G.

My friend has one and it doesn't seem all that bad for battery, because even though the 2nd SIM is on 3G, it doesn't access data.

    • Moto g4 plus you meant?

      • Yes, apologies for the typo
