Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 2.5" 1TB MLC SSD: MKNSSDRE1TB
3 Year Warranty

I don't have these drives myself, and if anyone think's they are terribad, let me know as it'll be the first time I'd be buying this brand, so I don't know much about them or how reliable they are.
I'm tempted to grab two of these to put in RAID0 as a thrashedout/trhowaround storage drive for my laptop.

I'm struggling to find prices under $300 for 1TB SSDs and I'd be keen to test it out against a SanDisk Ultra II, looking at performance after the drives have taken a beating.

  • I think the big differentiator is the controller they use between brands eg marvel and which model controller …… and how they tune their firmware ….. there's limited number of nand foundries ……. so I think what's under the hood from one brand to another is more firmware and MLC vs 3D.

seems good price to 1 tb

Check the international warranty validity with mushkin, Newegg only offer 15 days for international sales. So unless Mushkin offers an international warranty policy, you aren't getting the 3 years from Newegg.

If newegg sells to Australians, they must honour the statutory warranty (usually 1 year, but for an SSD, 3 years is likely to be upheld.)

What if they decide not to honor their warranty? What is their APN? They are based overseas so most likely buyer have to pay for one way shipping to US.

They're not based in Australia so don't expect them to honour our consumer laws. A lot of international online stores don't without any repercussions.

Good thing we have PayPal with refunded returns and CCs with protection.

They are not completely based overseas - some items are warehoused here and sold with GST.

I think if they have been marketing specifically to Australians (they have) you have a good case that you are covered by Australian consumer law.

But getting this enforced is another thing entirely.

Valve aren't based in Australia either - they got stung for not allowing refunds under Australian consumer law, so there's a precedent now. ACL affects all online stores selling to Australian Consumers.

        • @Nukkels:
Thats a bad example. Steam done so for years without action, and many people not being able to do anything.

        • @Nukkels: I do not think Valve care about Australian market and laws that much because we are a small country. The main reason Steam implemented the refund system was because of the EU. Europe is a much larger customer base than Australia and it is just a bonus that we happened to benefit from it too.

Steam does not collect GST/sales tax in Australia but still charges us more than the US in the same USD currency, where is that extra money going? Certainly not to anywhere in our country. In Europe they charge in euros/pounds and collect VAT. This shows which market they are more worried about.

Thanks for the info. I might shoot an email off to Mushkin to ask about international warranty on Monday.

The Ultra II is TLC (I think), and I've got a Sandisk 256gb X300 which is the enterprise SSD equivalent/ballpark. Its not too bad. I've had it hanging out the side of a laptop with no case and just a cable.. It still works.

I just saw SanDisk Ex Pro 960Gb come down in price, but that's a tad overkill for a scratch drive.

  • The Ultra II's have now dipped below 300 too for Amazon.de
