  • How does this compare to the aldi expressi for 100 bux

    • +3

You can leave the price tag on this one for the look at me effect lol

Like a Mitsubishi sigma vs a bugatti veyron

      Are you kidding?

Why not ask how it compares with a can of International Roast?

It doesn't compare to the Aldi machine.

      This is an espresso machine.

      The Aldi is capsule/pod system.

      • IMO International Roast tastes better than Aldi expressi pods.

    • you asked last post about this unit and got an answer. why bother again.

  • sounds fancy!

I'll buy one if the price drops below 1k.

after the price of the 820 on catch of the day for Mother's Day ….. you will always feel ripped off paying more than $700 for one of these machines…… somehow cheapest past prices set a benchmark / baseline of what the next bargain price should be.

      • Very true. So how much you think this machine is worth?

      • I feel like I would have seen that deal, just did a quick search for it on ozbargain and cant find it…are you sure that it was the Breville Oracle that was for sale for $820? This seems to be the cheapest that it has ever been.

        • Probably the barista express.

  • Very tempted.

  • equally the BEP920 is 1105 after cashrewards & ebay 20% - pulled the trigger myself, arguably better value but obviously the OP has referenced an auto machine… horses for courses.. thanks for sharing

    • Its a shame there is no longer the $100 cashback available, did you miss out on the previous deal at harvey norman?

That's a lot of money for a disposable coffee machine. Why not get something with parts readily available and serviceable? Maybe something like a rancilio silvia with a mazzer grinder. Been using my mazzer for 10 or so years, it will never die. You'd eventually want to upgrade from a Silvia, but even in years time that will still be working and have resale value.

    • What will you upgrade to from Rancillo Silvia?

      • +4

my brevile em7000 dual thermo makes coffee and froths milk at the same time…..leaves my rancilio commercial single group for dead for quality and speed compromise.

      • I don't have one. Next step is expensive, meaning second hand is best value by far.

        • So which second hand model would you buy?

        • @donkeykong:

My requirements are probably different from yours. Most would go to a heat exchanger domestic machine next. Have a look on coffeeparts.com.AU at domestic machines. these are really good and will satisfy most. Note that you will get much better prices second hand. I once bought rrp $5,000 domestic machine for $900. Next step after those machines, you are looking at full commercial machines bigger boilers, better temp control, rotary pump (quiet) and a more reliable pressurestat (shouldnt fail, meaning boiler won't overheat). There is not a great difference between the heatexchanger domestic e61 style machines, so I'd find any of this type that are available second hand (look for the chromed group head), check out the particular model reviews, and check parts availability. If that's all good, then I'd consider it, but make sure you inspect and see working.

        • @Gofast: so what you're saying is a Slayer or GS3 :)

        • +1

          @yojabbajabba:

Sounds good, who cares about cost!

        • @Gofast: thank you.

    • +3

High end Brevilles and Sunbeams are excellent but yes, for this price I personally would be looking at a Silvia or Lelit.

    • +2

Silvio doesn't froth and make espresso at the same time….. dual thermo or dual boiler seems to be the min you need to enjoy making coffee.

      • +2

No it doesn't. But its a quality machine that will make excellent coffee with a good grinder. Most better quality machines past this move to heat exchangers.

  • How long would this machine last before breaking down? and service costs? I'm guessing build quality would not be on par with an Italian machine. Has anyone had to do a warranty claim on this machine?

I have a Expobar Minore 2. Its been fixed twice over 9 years. Each repair costing $500+ each time. Thinking about getting rid of it before something else goes wrong with it.

    • Breville Dual Boiler used to have 2 years warranty.
My one broke down in 1 year 11 months. I think they miscalculated something. :)

      • hmmm that doesn't sound promising….

        • But I did repair it under warranty. And sold it for $600 (2/3 of original price I payed). And bought a new one with extended warranty. :)

        • @SickDmith: feel i should sell of the expobar too now. guessing the breville doesn't use any commercial machine parts at all though…

        • @Sammyboy:

Breville Dual Boiler and Oracle is the top of the line.
People still tweak them (like replacing overpressure valve with a 'better' one…).

  • Pretty content with a percolator, and for frothing - aerating the milk with an abandoned bodum press in a narrow porcelain mug. Cost $30. Bench real estate - zero.

  • Great price.

My 4+ year old Sunbeam 750 (RRP in 2011 was $999; now the general price runs about $849) that I got on a previous Ozbargain Deal in late 2011 for $649 has been overworked and, despite a major service, is struggling to do as well as it did when new.

It's saved me a fortune on takeaway coffee prices for the 25-35 mugs of espresso flat whites that my wife and I have per week.

When it was getting a few hiccups a few weeks ago, I considered the Breville Oracle after seeing how good it was at several live demos and on Youtube.

When this deal came along, just as I was considering paying almost $2k for one, I thought that this Oracle was a good longer term investment.

Nice retirement gift for me as I pack up from work.

    Thanks OP.

(Just got email saying I can collect at Kotara Good Guys after 12:30pm Friday 20/5 … excellent.)

  • Ozbargain'ed ???? it looks like, I cant tell the original listing is removed
