VW Golf 92TSI DSG Historical Prices

Hi

After much floating around the Mazda forums and convincing myself that a Mazda 2 is the best car for me, I've suddenly changed gear and decided to by a golf instead.

I'm curious to know how cheap the 2015/2016 models have gone and I'm trying to find some old advertising. Something like a March special where you save $x,000 off the drive away price. I figure from there I will be able to find out how low they can go.

I think I'm going to have to wait until June 30th when the demonstrator sale ends - unless a demonstrator turns up that meets my numbers.

Thanks

  • Go back to the Mazda if you want to keep the car for more than 3 years.

  • They have been "on sale" for $22,990 since they were released. $2500 extra for DSG.

Excellent car. Kind of agree with tes2131 though, go Japanese for a "keeper" or you can get a five year warranty and if no problems keep a few more years after that.

Check the cheapest price on Carsales, that's your benchmark for negotiation

  • these DSGs are a hit and miss I hear, was interested in a GTI myself but heard too many horror stories about having to replace the DSGs from my friends!

    • It's because of the issues with DSG's and other dry clutch self shifters I've been too scared to own an auto…CVTs are just horrible and torque converters arent as fuel efficient.

The newer wet clutch DSG boxes are quite good I hear though.

      Also…GTI without a stick?

OP, I'm a mechanic by trade and I can tell you straight away, forget the Golf. Especially if you're running a business, you need an ultra-reliable vehicle that doesn't spend half of its time stuck in a workshop getting warranty problems sorted. And I'm speaking from experience as well, I bought my missus a new MKV Golf GTI back in '07. Nice car, but things like burning oil (5L every 10K, considered normal by VW), intermittent electrical issues (warning lights occasionally popping up for no reason, radio cutting out), coolant disappearing into never-never land, dropping coil packs, DSG doing all sorts of silly and strange things, chopping tyres every 10K (it didn't get driven that hard). Flicked it as soon as the warranty expired.

Went back to Toyota and have never looked back. Even if everyone says they're whitegoods on wheels, you can't beat good reliability and reasonably priced fixed-price servicing.

Anyways, you say you were looking at a Mazda2, but then started looking at a Golf? 2 completely different car segments. What will you be using the vehicle for, i.e. what sort of business?

you sound like an idiot comparing a golf from 2007 to a golf from 2016

ORLY? I guess some idiots like yourself don't seem to grasp the concept very well that some things with V-Dud will never change…

onto my 3rd VW Golf "performance model"
Previous 2 avg 30K KM per year
NO ISSUES AT ALL apart from general wear and tear items
          MK5 R32 DSG
          MK6 GTI DSG
          and now MK7 R DSG

all serviced every 15K KM, at a specialized euro workshop and not VW.
you clearly are a disgrunted mechanic that doesnt understand the technical and electrical aspect to these cars so youll sway everyone away.

Ah, could've guessed, usual VW Fanboi. But yes, I will admit that VW are getting their act together, and you're lucky to have a good run. Disgruntled mechanic? Nah… I stopped turning spanners ages ago. :) And that wasn't me that negged you, BTW.

    • Hi

To qualify the mazda2 vs golf. I was looking at a corolla ascent and the mazda2 and comparing room and power with bells and whistles. So the prices of the mazda2 genki were similar but I got things that I thought would make city driving more enjoyable
      - good entertainment system
      - led headlights (nothing says I'm upset with you like LED high beams - jk)
      - climate control
      - heads up display
      - stupidly big alloy wheels

I understand that DSG is a bad name when it comes to gearboxes. I saw that there is a class action against ford's model. But I'm prepared to take the risk with their latest model and a lower power (92 vs 110) engine.

      • both 2 different sized cars.
if you comparing a Mazda2 you need to compare to a VW Polo not Golf.

        • yep. Different size, performance and feature list. Same price.

  • I was with a relative who bought a late 2015 golf tsi model and I questioned the sales guy about dsg failures and he said that vw have addressed the issue with their later models. So far so good, but the car has only travelled 8k kilometres so time will tell. I had to top engine up with about 300mls of oil.
