So we are family of 4 with a fair ambition to continue reproducing. Husband wants a new car so he can keep up with the Uber trend with his mates. I thought if we are buying a new car, might as well buy one that lasts us at least another decade or more. How are fellow Ozbargainers experience with Nissan X-Trail 7 Seater? We are on a tight budget and saw the price is quite reasonable. How are the after sales services? many thanks.
Buying new car. Is Nissan X-Trail 7 seater worth it?

Kids are 8 months and 2 and half years. Currently its Camry 1998. well, buying new because he wants to go Ubering with it. We actually tried looking for used cars as well. I thought Captiva was a reasonable price for used car, it turns my husband off.
Nope, avoid the Captiva, not for a long-term ownership situation
The problem will be how quick you reproduce…! No 7-seater on the market has child anchor points for the 3rd row seats. In order to have under 4yos in the 3rd row, you'd need to buy a Tarago or equivalent people mover.
So you need to decide on the reproduction timeline if you want the car to last 10yrs…!
not anytime soon, i can say that. probably when the 8 months has gone pre-kinder.
I heard Audi Q7 has rear anchors, I'm sure more do now with isofix standards.
I'm sure more do now with isofix standards.
Not within the OPs asking price of any major 7-seater that I know of. They're not fixed seats, 99% of them stow away, so they can't get anchor points properly engineered.
Isofix just fixes the bottom belt, still need a top tether to an anchor point
@Spackbace: irrelevant and so others are not mislead reading the thread you said No 7-seater on the market has child anchor points for the 3rd row seats
I heard
Can you actually confirm it has top tether anchor points though? Hearsay is nothing to prove a point.

Q7 has ISOFIX in rear row but not sure about Aussie top tether anchor points.
Again, just hearsay and not evidence, but without having a top tether, it's pointless.
http://www.essentialkids.com.au/forums/index.php?/topic/1044… - Seems to point to it having anchors in the back row.
Ford territory 7 seater has 5 anchor points, 3 in the back seat and 2 in the 3rd row.
Agreed on the Daewoo captiva, absolute rubbish, if you are going korean go hyundai or Kia
I gotta say, trying to buy a car for the family car, and for Uber, is a bad idea!
Your kids will make a mess (it's inevitable). There will be constant changing of car seats in and out of the car. And what if he's on the job, with the SUV, and you don't have a car but you need to take the kids to hospital, what then?!
Sorry but it sounds like you'll need to find a way to have 2 cars. Either the job needs to pay for it, or further reproduction shouldn't be in your distant future…
Not sure if OP means uber as the company or as in keeping up with what mates have
Isofix…makes changing car seats a matter of minutes without the worry and need of having to get a professional install.
Yep, (and the average person shouldn't have to rely on a professional installer anyway) but point remains that you wouldn't take them out every day for hubby to go to work.
@Spackbace: In this case it gives them and option, simple and easy so the wouldn't becomes could.
X trail like many others is a 5+2 seater not a proper 7 seater like the Discovery, kluger/pathfinder so only good for small kids (under 8's or thereabouts)
I might be the only one, but I have a feeling you'd end up losing more in depreciation by buying New than you will make on your fares, after tax.
Just a hunch - maybe worth running the numbers.Sat in the 6th/7th seat kluger, surprisingly roomy for adults. Average size adults, not WWF wrestlers.
i looked at the xtrail 2 years ago when looking for a 7 seater. it felt like the 3rd row of seats was built for legless dwarfs.
we had our kids get in to try them and our 7 year old (at the time) was like "I can't fit!"
the new model might be better, but back then it looked like an after thought.
we went with a mitsubishi diesel outlander 7 seater. I can sit in the back row if necessary (I'm 183cms)
Thanks, this is very helpful.
Thanks, Altomic, very useful!
It seems that you don't need the 7 seater immediately, so I would be more inclined to go for something with only 5 seats and worry about the 7 seater bridge when you come to it.
With two kids we found the 7 seater quite useful., now we've got 3 kids and a seven seater is near essential. Taking mates along is so east and the back row gets used a few times a week. Back in the good old days just stuffing an extra kid in the back was acceptable but not anymore.
OP Think about how long you want to keep the car, if it's longer than a few years go for 7 seats for a family wagon. for a smaller SUV the outlanders at work seem to be well regarded for space. Our current car is a pathfinder, so a bit big for some, but plenty roomy for 5 of us plus one or two hangers on and some stuff in the back, like a stroller or a bunch of soccer gear. In the Captiva we had the stroller had to go under the feet of the second row or on the roof racks if we had 7 on board.
you can still keep up with the Uber trend (and not make much money) with a vehicle a few years old, you dont need to buy brand new.
Look for something a few years old and save the dollars.
How old are the current kids?
If on a tight budget, why buying new?
What's the current 'Mums Taxi'?
