Vacuum Cleaner

Thought to start a post here…I need to change my current Hoover vac from Godfreys…its dying i reckon…using since last few years :)
With so many Dyson Vacs these days on bargain Market im trying to see which one is better for me.
Mostly will be used for vacuuming 4 rooms. I can afford around $350 mark.
Appreciate your recommendations guys Dyson V6 Handstick or something else?

  • I am using a DC59 Animal HandStick for a 3level Townhouse.
    2 x Cats

at full charge and using it with animal rotate attachment; it gives enough juice for at least 1 full level.

It is great for stair cases.

As long as you vacuum in section. (empty dust and recharge)
It is an awesome little unit.

Under $360 from TGG after 20%

    • Thanks mate,
I check this latest post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/248069 I presume you are referring this?
      Its Dyson V6 Handstick $358.40 @ TGG.
But I think it cannot be used for other stuff like couch, window/door surroundings etc? WWill need to buy additional accessories?

        I am unsure.
Mine came with additional accessories from Dyson.
Perfect for couch and pet hair

        • How long does charging take?

          @Mikinoz:

          3hrs+? (Im guessing)
          You get about 15mins usage.

  • Thanks I should have mentioned this in post.., apart from using on carpet 4 rooms, I will need it for :
    - couch
    - window/door gaps and surroundings

I am happy with/without cord as long as the vac is around my budget of $350 and does the job pretty well for my needs (as above).

There's plenty of threads about vacuums on Whirpool too. The consensus among many vacuumphiles is to go for a Miele. It almost doesn't matter which model. I saw a cheapish Miele C1 (just my recollection - I may be wrong) for $222 in a junk mail brochure. Can't recall the store. But that is a decent price for a Miele.
I got myself the absolute cheapest Miele I could find around a year ago. It does everything - hard floors, lounge, window channels and all various heads are on board so you don't need to go running back to your vacuum storage area to get different heads. I paid $179 on special at Godfreys.
The thing would suck a medicine ball through garden hose.
And even with a chocker-full bag, it still sucks pretty well.

Agree bought the miele after going through lots of cheap vacuums. Paid half the price of a dyson and its been awesome

Some really good Miele models with the current eBay promo may fit the price range for the OP.

      • Awesome.thanks mate.
But with that head do you if these two links which posted can work on hard floors, lounge, window channels etc?

We have the white one linked above. The main brush head works for both hard floor and carpets. I use the included attachments for things like lounges, skirting boards, and the car.

          @samia786:

Thanks mate. This deserve to be posted as a bargain someone like me might find it very useful.

        • @electricbluee: Complete C3 Cat & Dog is the model with a better filtering system and slightly nicer attachments. Appears to be not as cheap as the other model you found though (refer to the reviews for more information). I have the cat & dog model and would highly recommend it over my previous kirby g6/rainbow d4se!

The only issue we have found is a "known issue" where the bag full indicator does not go down after replacing the bag, you can get this fixed under warranty if you encounter it.

  • Second hand Kirby if you have carpets.

    • I would recommend the cat & dog model over the kirby for carpets, I've owned both. The kirby is great and likely cheaper if you get a good deal on a second hand model, the one I have is over 10 years old and still goes strong!
However the Miele is all round a better vacuum in my opinion, however the bags cost 3-4X what the kirby bags will cost (or more, the kirby bags are cheap, and the spare parts are more available)

  • Get the $70-something bagless one from Kmart. It has effectively cleaned my house with 7 carpeted rooms every weekend for the past year and a half. This replaced a $299 wet and dry commercial unit which broke after six months and turned out to be so much better!
