Is This a Good Deal on a New Car?

Hi Ozbargain,

I'm looking at purchasing a new car for my wife.

I know most of you would recommend a second hand car but with new light cars you get something that has warranty, roadside, capped price servicing and the security of knowing it's been treated well ect. (Plus it's nice to treat yourself)

I'm currently looking at the 2016 VW Polo 66tsi Manual in White. For a light car I think it looks alright, cheap on fuel and well built. The offer i've negotiated is:

  • $14,000 Drive away (from $16,490)
  • No Dealer Delivery charges
  • Carpet floor mats
  • Premium Number Pates
  • Tinted Windows

I think that's a solid deal but I wanted to ask the experts.

Has anyone bought this car for less?

    good price

    full tank?

don't be suckered into paint protection or any other stupidly priced extras

      get tinting done elsewhere too.

  • Very solid price mate. Don’t think twice on that deal.. The resale value would still be around 10k after 3 years

  • Good price. Who cares if it's not even a full tank as it's probably like $30-$40 at current prices

A true OzBargainer would care! :)

Yeh, make them throw in one of those tree air fresheners too. If they refuse, say "no deal!!".

Make sure it really does have a 2016 compliance plate, check yourself.

  • how's the servicing costs on this car, say after 3 years.

    • Capped price - around $400 per service every 15,000k's

      • But that's only for the first few years right? can't be for the lifetime of the car.

  • I reckon your on a low-ball!

    • What do you mean by this?

  • +1

A low-ball is a price given that is too low for other dealers to match and may well be too low for the originating low-baller to sell. There are many reasons to put someone on a low-ball but, it is primarily designed to stop you buying elsewhere.

    • Bingo. The old "what if I could do it for this?" line is a common one, and the buyer just hears "I could do it for this".

Seems a good price, I wouldn't leave the offer for much longer (assuming it's a 2016 plated car, under 50kms, unlicensed).
