Where to Go for a Short Adventure in Australia?

Hi everyone

I turn 21 soon and I'm wanting to go somewhere special rather than have a party. I have a few days free in July, and I want to go somewhere here in Australia because hey, it doesn't get much better than our beautiful country, right? :)

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? It needs to be doable in a week including driving time.

Thanks guys!

    You're in Adelaide..
So you should head somewhere warm…
Alice, Cairns or Broome excite you at all? (EDIT: obviously if you're only driving, that pretty much excludes Broome or Cairns)

July is peak season so flights and travel expenses generally cost more.

But if you're willing to go later in the year, then until midnight AEST today you can get $69 flights on Jetstar from Adelaide to Sunshine Coast, QLD. It's a new route.

Tigerair also has $45 flights from Adelaide to Brisbane on sale.

Anyway my suggestion would be to go to Airlie Beach and do a Whitsundays sailing trip. Amazing beaches and average temperature of 27 in July. You can get cheap flights from Sydney and Brisbane to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) Airport, which is 40 minutes on a bus to Airlie Beach.

Depends what you like? Beaches? National parks? Cities? If you must drive to your destination, you really have to consider you'll lose a few days in driving the return trip. Altho having a car offers great flexibility.

    I think it's a great idea what you're doing!

What sort of vehicle do you have? Can it handle dirt roads? Flinders ranges pitch a tent in the Parachilna Gorge,go to the Blinman pub and Parachilna pub, explore, Broken Hill, the river land, pitch a tent at the Riverbend Caravan park at Renmark and use as a base and explore the area.
A great app is wikicamp for all sorts of camping.
So much to explore within SA in a week
