Air Conditioners - Does Anyone Have Any Feedback on These Ones Currently Available @ HVN?

Panasonic:
2.5KW
3.5KW

Mitsubishi:
2.5KW
3.5KW

Fujitsu:
2.5KW
3.5KW

The Fujitsu seems a little cheaper after the cashbacks and Amex statement credits (3x AMEX)… but there were some reviews on Product Review about them being quite noisy. The Mitsubishi didn't really have corresponding model reviews, but there were some instances of water leaks?

An air-cond installation company that came to our place to quote, said we probably didn't need a 3.5KW (small 2BR apt) and said that a 2.5KW should do. They sell Daikin and Toshiba, and total installed price is between $2000 and $2100. What do you think we should do?

Edit 1:
Does anyone have a good a/c installer in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne? I'm kinda leaning towards the Fujitsu 2.5KW at the moment. Thanks again. Assuming that it's $650 for the A/C unit and $750 for the install, the cost shouldn't be higher than $1500(?).

  • Just bought and installed both the 2.5 and 3.5 Fuji and i dont know how someone could call them noisy. Loving them. Got ebay 20% off, then the Fuji gift card and then HN price guarantee refunded differnece plus 5% against appliance online. Got the 2.5 for $500 and 3.5 for $750ish from memory.

    • We got the 2.5 Fujitsu at the last ebay good guys sale. It is about 1.5 meters from our head when we sleep and it is damn quiet. I think the people complaining about noise had it installed incorrectly.

Haven't used it too much, but so far happy with it. Great unit.

We paid $510 for the unit, $500 for the install and another $50 for a wall mount bracket.

My 2 Fujitsu cards literally turned up today. Took a while, but paid for install

  • I've got the Panasonic 2.5 in my bedroom (Westerly facing bedroom = roasting in summer).

Unit cost $600, install cost $600, seems to run on nothing as my power bill actually DROPPED for summer compared with winter. Run it overnight on quiet mode and its no bother - unit is about 3m from my pillow.

Only complaint - the lights on the unit literally light up my bedroom like the 2nd coming of christ. My god they are bright.

Would recommend, but wouldnt pay $2000 for it installed - you're being ripped.

Lastly - for the sake of $100 or so for the bigger unit, why wouldnt you? Odds are it will run more efficiently to cool/heat the place I would have thought.

  • Getting envious of the prices you guys got with the Fujitsu and Panasonic air-conditioners.

Best price I could come up with, for the 2.5KW Panasonic is $679 (delivered assuming it is price-matched by HVN) and $659 for the 2.5KW Fujitsu and AMEX credits. Nowhere near $500. :/

$2000 is supposed to be for the Toshiba and $2100 for the Daikin <— supposedly better by a lot. It's not exactly a straightforward install, i.e. outdoor unit is not immediately behind the wall of the indoor unit. We have an existing no-name brand air-conditioner on the wall which will need to be removed. Not sure if we will need another wall-mount bracket.

So far, the Fujitsu 2.5KW is winning on the polls… if anyone else has any more info, please share.

    Thanks.

The Fujitsu cashback is running till July 31st, so if it's not too urgent you could wait it out for the next ebay 20% off sale. Although you would lose out on the amex credits so not sure it's worth waiting to save a possible extra 7%.

Shop around for the installation. I find https://www.serviceseeking.com.au/ a good way to get some quick ballpark prices for installation. But generally it should be somewhere in the range of $500-$750.

      • Thanks. :)

Assuming Good Guys eBay Fujitsu 2.5KW price @ $899, less 20% (HVN doesn't have any airconditioners listed at the moment), add $50 for delivery less $150 Fujitsu cashback, it'll come up to $619.20. About $40 less (or 6.06%)

Amex runs out 5/7/2016, so I guess there's a bit of time to make a decision. I think overall, the biggest variable now, is the installation cost.

I know someone who is in the aircon business (large-scale projects and-the-like). I have asked him once which brand is good, and he swears by Fujitsu, followed by Mitsubishi.

Be mindful that 2.5kW models can be installed in two ways: some models must be hard-wired, some can go into a powerpoints (because they don't use too much power). I have one of each, and the powerpoint model is easier in that I can unplug it when I need to (e.g. when there is thunder). The one which is hardwired has its plug on the outside of the house, which is annoying. I think the hardwired one also cost me more to install.

  • Can anyone recommend an air-cond installer in the inner western suburbs of Melbourne?

At the moment, I'm getting quotes of around $1000 and another $200 to remove the old unit.

  • We got both size panasonics the 2.5 for bedroom and 3.5 in cinema room installed in September last year.
They have a fan function only which our older lounge room Mitsubishi doesn't.
I agree with Tizey, costs nothing to run but the lights don't bother me.

Try ServiceSeeking.com.au for quotes. Just prepare for it to be very expensive. Cheapest I've ever heard of for most basic single AC installation is $800.
