I'm looking for a new top loader washing machine as my old one is on it's way out.
We are a family of 5 and do washing once or twice every day. We're looking for one that can wash 8kg+.
Looking to spend less than $1500.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

We do prefer a top loader, we like to be able to add more washing in after we have started.
I have had a look online to see the pros and cons of top and front loaders and it seems to come down to personal preference rather than one is better than the other.
Actually top loaders exert less force on clothes - they're "gentler" and use less water also.
Top loader use less water? Hmm
@Nutrino: Yes. Top loaders need to fill the entire container (up to the level of the clothes) and then agitate the water, front loaders fill a small amount and tumble the clothes through the water repeatedly.
nah, this isnt true! side loaders are more gentle. top loaders stretch undies W I D E..
top loaders wash clothes much faster than side loaders.
Side loaders that use much less water.
top loaders are also more relaiable and less prone to leaking. choose one that has simple dials, the fully electronic ones are not as relaiable.
@Diji1: Your two comments are contradictory.
According to choice.com.au "Front loaders almost always use less water and need less detergent in comparison to a top loader."

Fixed.. No doubt a brain-fart
BTW, you can add stuff to a front-loader mid-cycle, since they only have enough water in them to get the clothes wet. But you'll probably get suds everywhere lol
Samsung front loaders have a chute to add clothes mid cycle.
Wow old thread :-)
I actually ended up getting a Samsung with the front chute, overall we're happy with it.
We've had one of these for 15 months:-

Thanks appliance central has this model for $785 with free shipping. Have you had any problems with it?
If Appliance Central don't offer installation and takeaway of your old machine Appliances Online price match (cost + delivery - which in your case is free).
And for large items you can choose day of delivery (1-2 days from day of purchase).
That way you get their extra service, but for same cost as other supplier.
If Appliance Central offer same service and quick delivery, disregard the above.
No problems whatsoever. My stepdaughter has had the 9kg model since 2013 without issues. Will they install and also remove the old one? If so,you have a good deal.
I can't see it on their website so my guess is no, if appliances online can price match then I will just go through them.
I did some research on a top loader last week because our machine has had enough. My conclusion for a top loader is Fisher&Paykle. Samsung and LG is hit and miss.
With your budget of $1,500 you should be able to buy any model you want. The cheapest are from JB and ApplianceOnline. You can also try TGG.
Thanks any particular model you would recommend? I've checked product review and for every positive review there is usually a negative one too so it's hard to make a decision.
It seems the same for other brands and models. Many good reviews mixed with some bad ones.
I have settled for the F&P WA7060E1 which is a new Eco model but only 7kg. I can't confidently recommend anything to you to be honest. What I recommend you to do is to stick to one brand that you feel you can trust and look up the range to suit your need. There is a WA8060E1 model which is 8kg instead of 7 to get your started.
Read the evaluations in Choice Magazine, probably available free online via your local library membership. I was surprised at their recommendations.
Do you know which month's magazine covered washing machines? The website does not make it easy to know the edition that contains particular items.
Lucky the 20% ebay came around so soon, did you buy a machine yet?
Not yet, because we were considering getting a washer/dryer combo but not many of those in the ebay sale.
The fisher & paykel 10 kg top loader washing machine was recently recommended to buy in choice magazine .It scored 74 % & i think was the only top loader to be recommended. It is model number WL1068P1 & is currently selling on the good guys ebay website for $858 if my maths is correct .Choice have not reviewed the washer dryer combos for 2 years. The only other washer suitable for a large family is the 8.5kg LG front loader model number WD14130D6 it scored 82% but i couldn't find it on bing lee or good guys ebay.ONe thing to mention is front loaders take a long time to do a wash sometimes 2 hours.
Its so confusing, there are too many choices! :)
@onetwothree: My suggestion is do what another person suggested earlier & go to your local library & read the evaluations they usually have an actual reference copy there to read & you could photo copy pages the issue you want is May 2016 i think .Use it as a guide & a starting point & read further reviews online. In the end though its personal preference & what suits your family .
does it have to be a top loader?
