Home Theatre Set up for Apartment ~ $500-700

I just bought a new apartment and want to get a good home theatre set up. What would be the best option out there?

Currently I'm using my Hisense TVs built in speakers, so I'm not looking for the perfect audiophile set up, just something that will feel like a leap in quality without spending too much money.

Does anyone have anything that's worked great for them?

Thanks!

      Hahaha maybe move to Detroit?

  • Here's a decent one for $600 delivered:

If that page doesn't load, try the landing page. It's shown in the top banner:

If have some of these speakers and recommend them. Quite often.

    • Those look so good but I really, really want wireless rear speakers. I'd take a hit in sound quality for it. I really don't want to have many visible wires in the apartment - and yes I know there are ways to manage wires but I'd rather not have them in the first place.

      Thanks for the suggestion though!

Some of the Home Theatre in a Box solutions have wireless rears. Try Panasonic or Samsung. Definitely not audiophile, but will give you DTS surround and a massive leap from TV speakers.

        • Yeah was looking at these Samsung ones that looked perfect - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-series-6-5-1-channel-…

Just wanted to see if any other ideas were out there.

        • @frankmug: Probably not a lot in the price range. I went from a Panasonic setup to a Pioneer system with receiver, satellites, sub etc for $300 a few years ago when JB was flogging them cheap. But no wireless rear option on mine. It's way better than the all in one setup in that I have multiple inputs now and better quality speakers. For the money it was worth it.

Another option might be a sound bar?

I would look to buy some second hand Wharfedale Diamond speakers off ebay and buy a Pioneer entry level receiver or Sony brand etc that you can regularly pick up from JB HiFi or Harvery Norman when they do 40-50% of receivers.

Pretty much, or Wharfdale Achromatics they tend to come along pretty cheap (infact i have a 5.0 setup of bookshelfs of them sitting in the garage)

That being said, since its such a low budget and its an apartment where you need to take into consideration noise pollution, i would probably end up getting a mid range yamaha soundbar (such as a Yamaha YSP-2500)
