Faulty Sony Waterproof Walkman Replaced with New Upgraded Model Ws413

Thought I'd post this for those that grabbed a pair of the Sony waterproof Walkmans late last year or earlier this year that were posted a few times on here.
I grabbed a pair from DS in November and after 2 runs with them the left ear stopped working so I took them back and got them replaced.
This happens again but DS was in Liquidation by now so I planned to go directly through Sony. I only just got around to doing this recently. They got me to send them in reply paid with proof of purchase.
5 days later I have a brand new pair of the NW-WS413 which have only just been released this year.
They are a way better fitting design and also have an ambient noise feature that uses built in mics to play the Ambient noise through the earphones. Tested in the house and it works a treat.
My reason for posting is since I had 2 pairs fail the excact same way I'm sure others out there are failing.
If you are I'd strongly suggest going through Sony instead of the retailer you purchased from (JB had a deal and DS receivers did as well).

  • play the Ambient noise through the earphones

I don't get it … you listen to what you can hear normally through a microphone?

    • Because they are in ear they completely block out ambient noise which can be a concern when running or cycling the streets.
You can turn this function off though and it also has 3 different volume levels.

  • That is a great outcome. Good to hear a company doing the right thing. I have these, bought from David Jones (Dick Smith) and they are still working ok. May I ask did you use the old model swimming? (just wondering if that may be a cause of them failing).

And with the new model, can you comment on the sound volume, are they any louder when swimming at all? Thanks for the post. They are an interesting product. Quite a few people in the pool approach me asking what they are and how they work.

  • I didn't swim in my old pair but I would rinse them off after a run as per the instructions.
Volume on mine is great. There's no way I could put them full but I was reading the Amazon reviews and one person said the volume was too quiet. Apparently they have a volume limiter that can be turned off but I don't need to do it.

  • I thought Walkman were Tape/CD Players?
