MSI GTX980TI Video Card - $899 Pickup (Normally $1049), $916 Delivered @ PC Case Gear

110

PC Case Gear's normal price of $1049 seems to be pretty competitive on Static ice, although it seems SkyComp has reduced the price to $993.

Although price slash advertised for this weekend, it appears active now.

Benchmark page for those considering the cheaper GTX980.

Please consider that fact that the new cards are going to be announced within the upcoming hours and that from benchmarks scores suggest a 10% increase at stock speeds and possibly a 30% increase between the 1080 and 980ti. They should be released early June from speculation.

    • +1

Seriously. The leaked benchmarks scores shows that 1080 gets 300-400 more score higher than 980ti which is 8900+(1080) and 8500+(980ti) which is around 5% increase in performance.

      • Which ones are you looking at? Care to share the link?

      • +1

You missed the fact that we are comparing an OC 980ti to a possibly stock 1080. If the 1080 has half the OC headroom the 980ti does, then we are looking at a significant margin of difference.

      • +2

Nvidia claim that the 1070 will be much faster than a Titan X and the 1080 is faster than SLI GTX980. It would be a very bad move to buy a 980ti now, especially since the 1080 releases on the 27th of May.

        • Yep they just confirmed this this morning on their GPU conference

    • Well 10% is barely noticeable.

      • +3

Point is that prices of existing cards will drop once the new ones are out. In the used market, prices of high end cards have already plummeted

        • Which high end cards? AMD cards? As far as I know nvidia high end cards does not plummet in price, especially the ti cards.

        • When cards get replaced, the older cards just stop getting made and stock gets cleared out. It's up to the shops if they want to sell them for cheap to clear stock quicker.

        • To support this point, for example I just bought a used GTX980 for $450…

        • @Letrico:
Not sure how long you've been around but I smell a firesale. Happened to AMD when the Nvidia 980 came out http://www.pcworld.com/article/2692562/amd-steeply-slashes-f…

Happened to Nvidia when the Radeon HD 4000 series came out: http://archive.techarp.com/showarticle8b92.html?artno=578&pg…

It's happened many, many times before. If a compelling product launches and smokes the competition expect deep, deep cuts. I would not be surprised if Nvidia has already cleared most of the 980 inventory.

      • If it uses any newer tech or features on there, might see only 10% improvement for 6 months but eventually a game may come out that's 15 to 20% faster due to the older card simply lacking a new feature.
Personally, I wouldn't buy either of them - I'm LONG past my days of buying super super expensive video cards.

    Obligatory "wait until Pascal/Polaris"

  • +1

Considering it'll run all weekend, waiting for the upcoming official announcement wouldn't hurt, your order won't be shipped until at least Monday if you do order, anyway.

  • +5

Worst time possible to buy an existing series card.

Will be able to pick up on clearance or second hand for cheaper in the coming weeks and months.

  • +1

but 1080 will be priced around 980 so just wait and pick one up for $600-$700

  • TI is often on special now. So when I see people bidding 800+ for used ones ebay..facepalm.

  • Alternatively you can get g1 gaming from SE- http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-9… for $899 with free shipping (over $500)

  • Wil this allow me to play a game called counter strike version 1.6 on high settings?

    • No…

  • PLE have the Galax Gtx980 Ti HOF edition for $869 https://www.ple.com.au/Products/622009/Galax-GeForce-GTX980T…

Live stream is on now the quickest way to go through it is the live blog which runs latest news at the top
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/10305/the-nvidia-geforce-2016-…

1080 is faster than 980 sli and faster than titan x

    http://images.anandtech.com/doci/10305/SSP_163.JPG

    1080 is $599 USD May 27th
    1070 is $379 USD June 10th

    • This is insane. Also the 1080 has a single 8 pin and stays cool at 1.7GHz 67 degrees.

People are saying that AMD has already lost the battle, however we know very little about the Pascal cards. Here's hoping that they compete.

      Looks impressive.

This GTX980TI will require a significant price cut to be considered a good purchase.

  • The Nvidia 1080 and 1070 announcement just change the whole game. 1070 will probably be the no brainer if it beats TitanX at that price.

  • 980TI will significantly drop in price lul

  • Jaysus… where are people finding all this money.

Makes me chuckle, when there's all this doom & gloom about the country being hard-done-by.

    • As hobbies go gaming isn't that expensive. Take decent golf clubs, or fishing rods, cars, motorcycles, boats and many others.

  • The announcement was just made, both the 1080 and 1070 will be more powerful than a Titan X (according to NVidia on their stream). The price will be practically similar to the current pricing, 599USD for 1080 and 379$ for 1070 if I remember correctly (correct me in the comment if I'm wrong)

Now the prime target would be the 1070, if it's more powerful than a Titan X, or at least around that, that means it MAY be even around 980Ti's performance, it is also cheaper, if it was me, it would be a no-brainer to get the 1070 when it comes out.
Of course that is if we take Nvidia's words for it, actual benchmarks may differ but if the 1080 is more powerful than a Titan X, the 1070 wouldn't be so far behind.

PS: If it really is that, it will seriously pushed the price down for the second-hand market, at least, for the 9xx gen.

  • I would NOT, I repeat NOT be spending any money on this card unless you get one for closer to $500. The new 1080 card will wipe the floor folks: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/05/06/geforce-gtx-1080/

The 1080 will be VR and 4K ready http://www.forbes.com/sites/tiriasresearch/2016/05/07/nvidia…
