  • Great save!! was about to order the US one tonight.

unfortunately the beta is only running until May 17th according to EB, so you'll have two weeks with it.

  • Would that mean that the following days/weeks is when Starcraft 2 gets released?

  • +1

Id personally hold off on buying it until a demo is available, I think alot of Starcraft lovers are going to be disapointed in this game. Up to you I guess but my 2 cents.

    Good deal otherwise +v

  • awesome! thanks mate!

why the US promotion has no time limitation, while the OZ has at most 21 days to try, negative for the discrimination.

    • LOL Go ask EB Games that

    • Why do Aussies have to pay almost 50% more than yankies?
Why are their games released earlier than ours despite us having to pay more?
A lot of things are unfair for Australian gamers and has been for a long time. That's not about to change anytime soon either.

      • 'It costs a fortune to ship products here… we have such a weak currency… it's a tiny market so costs are much higher…'

All the above have been used to justify charging much more for products here than in the USA, and none of them are true. But, we continue to buy the products at inflated prices so I guess CEOs think we like it that way.

Check out the prices of cars some time. The Subaru WRX that comes out of the same factory in Japan costs the equivalent of AU$27k in the USA, but AU$42k here. And the US model has to be specially made in left hand drive for the US market.

        • My friend was mentioning the cost of Japanese cars to me before. He planned to import one in. With all the other fees like shipping, registration, and whatever else you need, he calculated that it was still cheaper than buying locally.

The only question I really have is why so many people still buy locally when they could be saving so much money by importing.

          • @leonheart1: Warranty and convenience.

            • @Untameable: Personally I never had to use my warranty for anything and I can usually wait for something to arrive. Especially with games. The CD Key is all you need nowadays.

              • @leonheart1: He was referring to the car (warranty & convenience).

          • @leonheart1: because imports are harder to insure here and most people think cheaper means its to good to be true. I imported an Evo 6 as they never sold them here, took me ages to find an insurance company that would take on a grey import, when I did it was great but it was hard, that was a few years back its easier these days but still harder than a normal car. PLus the loss on a grey import is higher as not many people wanna rebuy them for the same reasons above.

        • Not all of these justifications are an entire load of crap. It's true that there's marginal differences in shipping costs (obviously varies from port to port, and in some instances, China -> certain US ports are ~30 percent cheaper), but our GST obviously adds a significant amount to the retail price. Obviously, we shouldn't still be paying the 40% markup on tech goods that we once were with our relatively strong dollar, but I can see where some of the overhead comes from. If the US implements VAT, you'll probably see their prices start to become less appealing.

        • You have a point, but cars is probably the wrong example. Cars which come to Australia have their own unique specs, have to fulfil Aust ADRS and standards, and thus get their own production run. its much smaller, so naturally there won't be the economies of scale of the US production run. Also, cars require car makers to have a support network here. Again, Australia being such a small market makes it difficult to get economies of scale.

Software on the other hand is BS. There are very little differences between the Aust version and other English versions of the same software. In fact the differences should generally be some slight differences in English, and probably differences in the T&Cs. There is no justification for the the size of the markups… its pure price gouge.

    • Didn't mean to neg, sorry.

    • They changed their wording, so the offer is closed 17th May, but before it is the beta close.

  • Awesome, I just preordered this morning, I better go back to give them my email address.

Good bye to the normal lives of thousands of South Koreans!

    • understatement of the year there millions more likely

  • +1

the person who negged probably did so because he/she was too addicted to starcraft 1 and didn't want any more addictions

  • LMAO:)

  • Yeah good news for those looking for one. Don't know how but I gut added to the Beta for just having a Blizzard account the other day so for those wanting access consider creating a battlenet account and crossing your fingers.

  • What do you guys think of Blizzard's plans to release the game in 3 installments rather than expansions? Seems a bit unfair to force people to pay for an extra 2 full-priced games to be able to continue playing competitively online.

    • I think the split had more to do with the single player campaign than it does the multiplayer component.

      • I'm worried about the introduction of new units.

        • I'm sure they'd patch those in if it was to happen to prevent segmenting their audience.

  • unfortunately the beta is only running until May 17th according to EB, so you’ll have two weeks with it for 20 extra

    • happy to be corrected but i read that as if you pre-order before May 17th you get the beta access code, doesn't say how long the beta code is valid for i would think that is upto Blizzard.

      • Reading around and EB Games Australia is the only place who mentioned a beta closing date?

      • I think it's a bit stupid to limit the beta time period (if this is true). I don't see any harm letting people play until release of the game. After all these are people who paid for the game!

      • it sounds a little iffy on what they mean…
