$106 Fine in The Mail - Need Some Help

I just received a fine in the mail.

I don't have any idea on what I've done wrong but the fine states - 'Park so as to obstruct vehicles/pedestrians' at 2:58 pm. This occurred on the 20th April and I just received my fine now, so it's definitely hard to recall my long lost memories..

All I'm asking is whether I am able to request the council for images of evidence so I could comprehend what I've done wrong.

I remember clearly that I worked on that day and parked in the carpark provided…

Please help. $106 is a lot for a student.

  • Park so as to obstruct vehicles/pedestrians

Looks like you parked across a driveway or on a footpath..something like that. Give them a call and ask for proof. If you have a dashcam with a good size SD you could refer back to that date.

  • Is the fine through the SDRO? Depending on the council, sometimes the photos are already on the website for free http://www.sdro.nsw.gov.au/fines/pn/
Some councils you need to fill out a form, and pay a fee to view the photos.

You can apply for a payment plan, and pay it off over a few months if that would help http://www.sdro.nsw.gov.au/faq.php

    • If they're a student they may as well play hardball and offer 5 bucks per fortnight :p

      • Dunno about these sorts of things, but if he does go on a payment plan, will that affect his credit history? Would it show up on his report if he tries to apply for a loan in the future or credit card?

fines aren't a form of credit, so a payment plan for a fine would have no bearing on your credit history

Some councils you need to fill out a form, and pay a fee to view the photos.

Other councils will email them to you for free - just need to phone and ask.

Make sure you request the photos from the council, before filing an appeal with the SDRO. SDRO will typically reject an appeal automatically, even when the council failed to supply any evidence.

Once the SDRO has rejected your appeal, you'll have to take the matter to court, since there's no way to ask them to re-consider.

      $106 is a lot for a student.

Look up the road rules to make sure you've been given the correct fine for the correct offence and the car details match. Technical errors are a good way to get out without paying

If you have spare time, you could always roll the die and go to court. $106 is probably the maximum penalty - a sympathetic judge can reduce the penalty and you might still be ahead after paying court costs.

Thanks guys, I guess I (profanity) up.

I parked at a spot where cars were parked before. In saying so, I thought it's actually fine parking where I parked my car. I mean, every time I cruise in this car park I always find a car parked on the spot. I mean, there isn't a sign whatsoever. So…

    I guess i f8cked up once again.

    • I've seen this on a car in Hornsby where it was parked across the small access ramp built into the curb - the type to allow you to wheel a trolley up etc. They had a couple of them outside the block of units. Car was parked across it and copped a fine.
