  • I did this on Saturday with a chicken/haloumi salad. I didn't think about it at the time, but I guess I could have got a veggie salad for $3 less than the chicken one, and used the nuggets from the happy meal in the salad.

    • +1

      Pretty happy with that: http://imgur.com/UyTlb7Z

      • How did you get the macciato, extra CYT fries and garlic aoli for 10 cents?!

        • +1

I only got one CYT fries for the CYT meal, and a small fries for the happy meal. The garlic aioli was the sauce I selected for the nuggest. I changed the happy meal drink to a coffee (I normally go a flat white, but it said a Macchiato was 10cents, while a flat white was about 90cents).

          CYT salad meal $12.85
          Take chicken -$3.50
          Add haloumi +$1.00
Change CYT drink to small Coke Zero -$0.40
          Includes CYT fries

          Free 6 nugget happy meal
Change drink to a macchiato +$0.10
          Includes small fries
          Includes garlic aioli

          =$10.05

      • The boys toys are monster jam monster truck! But have to put your own stickers on….

    • Wonder why you are getting negative votes for asking a valid question… I want to know the answer to your question too.

      • +3

The same reason TA will get positive votes for"effort"

  • +1

Is CYT still a success? Or are people starting to get over the novelty of it?

    • I kinda wish I could order it through the drive thru.. I'd happily sit in waiting area of course… :(

      • For 10-15 minutes?

        • im too lazy to park and get out of the car, can sit in waiting area with free wifi :)

        • +1

          @storyteller: stronger signal inside :)

    • +6

Not sure how successful it's been but I personally love it and think it's the best thing they've ever done!

    • I remember reading a months ago that it was a success and that it was helping to raise profit performance for Macca's, which had been on the downward slide for a while.

    • +1

I love it and sometimes go to Maccas specifically for it, where are normally I would go elsewhere. The normal Maccas menu doesn't really appeal to me, and HJs is much cheaper.

I think the updates would have helped maintain the 'novelty'. Ie, they added chicken, then different breads, then haloumi, etc.

    • +1

Absolutely. It's obviously not flat out sales (thank god) but we do sell quite a decent number still and it's mainly to regulars. I think the price isn't too bad considering it uses all different products (grilled chicken is still my favourite IMO), and has pretty good stuff on the menu like the new halloumi which is surprisingly authentic. It's definitely not like your usual sloppy quarter pounder that can be inhaled in a couple bites. I'd say it rates equal to (if not better) than a lot of cafe-style burgers.

  • +2

    Min spend..?

  • -4

in the not too distant future eating at a place like this will have the same social stigma as smoking.

    • -6

      it should be.

      • +1

you were there last week stuffing fries and sugar water into your face, admit it.

    • +6

I never thought I'd be defending Maccas, but what about being seen in the confectionary aisle of the supermarket or drinking sugar based soft drink?
Maccas is one of the only places that some people can eat due to allergies. Unlike other places, they also usually have a safe place for toddlers and young kids to play afterwards. Outdoor exercise and running around after an occasional treat is better than feeding them lentils and then letting them sit in front of the TV or Xbox for hours.

      • +1

I would even argue that Maccas has already been through the negative social stigma by presenting more healthy options. In the late 2000's they were constantly ridiculed for not having anything healthy. Now they still have their same burgers, but they also have alternatives for people that don't want their fatty grilled meats. It's still not great, but it's definitely better than it was

        • McDonalds will literally be saving lives in a few years when the air conditioning provides affordable respite from the summer heat in the middle of the day.

    • +1

Only if overweight and wearing active wear. I usually go the diet softdrink and Salad rather than fries option. Probably need more than gonski for kids to learn to count calories.

  • +1

CYT is too expensive in my opinion. I'm in Melbourne and if you want a good burger you have so many options that are miles better and they end up being cheaper than the $16 or so I paid. Plus you don't have to sit in a dingy McDonalds with sticky floors and the rubbish not taken away. And with Fish and Chip shop burger you could double everything in the burger and get chips that you could never finish and it would still come in cheaper.

Also while I'm on my rant - where do they get off advertising on TV their Hamburger for $2? Who would consider that a good deal? They used to do a McDouble for $2. Bring that back.

    • +2

But at the fish and chip shop they don't give you a toy!

      • If you gonna buy happy meal for your kid anyway, this might work OK. That 6 nuggets Happy Meal is $7-ish.
Also, most McDonalds are no worse than most fish and chips shop, at least around my area, if you're complaining about the cleanliness.

        • +1

You must have some pretty clean fish and chip shops in your area. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Plus you don't have to sit in a dingy McDonalds with sticky floors and the rubbish not taken away

Must be your local, the ones I've been to have been clean and certainly no "sticky floors".

And with Fish and Chip shop burger you could double everything in the burger and get chips that you could never finish and it would still come in cheaper.

Not all fish and chip shops make great burgers. Large yes, great no.

    • you can do CYT burger on its own for $8.95 and meal for $12.95 (I think?) and get a free happy meal worth $5 or so, so its pretty good.

CYT burger with meat, cheese and veggies is good enough and for $8.95, not bad

  • +1

    What toy is currently offering?

    • +4

Hot Wheels monster truck or My Little Pony

  • +1

Does the happy meal come with toy or do you need to ask for it?

Every time I buy a happy meal I had to ask for a toy. Make me look stupid.

    • +3

      Make me look stupid.

Yeah, i see what you mean.

McDonalds will kill you with their food, corrupt your children with their in-school advertising, while propping in front of you some weirdo dude dressed in red and white, smiling like an errant catholic priest.

As a corporate entity, they must die.

      • Tough getting a posse up these days…

        • Hyperbole usually turns people off…

        • Well it turns me on, just like you do, Mr Khanh.

  • +2

CYT Salad with all the options minus meat (the free options), usually $5.50. I do add the new halloumi though for $1.

It completely DESTROYS the subway salad bowls!

  • I couldn't fit both in but a Happy Meal lasts like 100 years doesn't it?

  • +1

Castle Towers disable their create your taste meal so that you can't get the happy meal for free. Good job.
