Looking to Buy a New ADSL2+ Modem Router

Hey guys,

Looking to buy a good ADSL2+ Modem Router with Gigabit LAN (min 4 port) and preferably dual-band. (last similar forum post was Nov 2015)

I Googled heaps of Product Review sites such as CNET, Gizmodo, etc Top 10s but they're probably all biased to one brand or another.

I'm seeking beyond the Netgear hype, in fact I was looking into this one here:

Netcomm NB16WV-03 for example, so yeah any recommendations should be backed by real life experience.

  • NBN coming to your area anytime soon? If so may make sense to wait and go with the hardware associated with it or buy adsl/ FTTP or FTTN compatible hardware as ADSL is starting to disappear and where fttp or FTTN has gone live you will be unable to order ADSL service.

    • Not any time soon no, checked the map and we're not even planned.

  • i have a fritzbox 7490. it's not the cheapest (i got mine from internode for $250) but the options more than make up for the cost. it has a USB port you can hook a printer or hard drive to that you can use over the network, has the ability to use VoIP using your regular phone and a ton more.

it has 4 gigabit ports, 2.4 and 5Ghz, it also acts as a DECT basestaion meaning any compatable cordless phone is able to be connected to the base directly.

    • Yes, i've heard a few good things about those Routers, ima check em out

      • There's also the Asus DSL-AC68U as well which has even higher data Wifi AC speeds than the Fritz.

The price will sting though: $300+

I personally am OK with Archer D9 TP Link which I got for just under $200 with a free IP Camera.

The good: it's pretty stable and the 2.4ghz wifi boasts great range. It's also got two USB ports, one of which is USB3.0.

The bad: the web UI (config page) is very unpolished and looks like it was coded by amateurs. It's kind of second rate compared to the likes of Netgear or ASUS. 5ghz range is also not what I'd call superb.

Can't fault the performance however, but I am not on ADSL anymore (using it as NBN modem now)

  • OP update..I decided to take a risk and get the NetComm ModemRouter for $295.

I cant stand LinkSys firmware, Asus for me should stick to computer components (they're good at it) =))
