Kaiser Baas R1 Dash Cam $20 @ Harvey Norman

60

Seems to be a cheap but relatively old model (2013). Cheapest on staticice is $89 from DigiDirect, on eBay it's $59.97. A few reviews with sample vids on Amazon UK. Seems to have uneditable files (for legal purposes apparently according to Kaiser Baas) though according to this review.

  • 1280x720 @ 30fps or 1440x1080 @ 15fps
  • 120 degree viewing angle
  • 2" LCD
  • Auto record/stop on motion detection
  • Loop recording
  • Removeable Li-Ion battery
  • Suction cup and holder
  • Mini USB cable for transferring
  • USB pin adapter cable for charging
  • USB car charger (seems to be 1A)
  • HDMI out (no cable)

Also, the Kaiser Baas R10 (1080P @ 30fps or 720P @ 60fps f2.8) is $68 + $9.90 from eStore.

But perhaps this seemingly popular $19.18USD (or as low as $12.06USD but not sure of legitimacy) yumcha GT300 one (1080@30fps f2.0, 2.4" LCD, 140 degree) from AliExpress is a better deal?

Would like to know OzBargainers thoughts.

      • Any footage is better than no footage, but when the dash camera costs less than your memory card it's time to stop and have a good hard look at yourself.
None of the 8 stores closest to me in Sydney have any stock.

  • Seems to have uneditable files

    How ?

    • The footage captured can be played by quite happily by media players such as Windows Media Player, Quicktime player, VLC, Cyberlink and so on, and also via the Car Camera’s built in mini HDMI port (no cable supplied) to a similarly equipped TV / monitor. However, if you try and import the footage into an editing application – I tried Sony Vegas Pro 12, Grass Valley Edius 7, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Windows Movie Maker - you will probably receive a ‘Bad Codec’ error. However, it gets downright weird if I try and import the footage into ProDad ProDrenalin for rolling shutter, fisheye distortion, horizon level correction and so on; the file(s) are read perfectly. With a large BUT. ProDrenalin treats every file as being only around 0.8 second long, no matter how big the file size (which is shown correctly). My initial assumption is that this is done purposely. If the file(s) cannot be changed or modified, it then means if the footage is used for litigation, it cannot be ‘doctored’ and therefore in places where this type of footage is admissible, it is valid evidence. I am awaiting on confirmation from KaiserBaas and will update when (and if) I get it. However, either way, if you wanted to get hold of a unit for purely ‘action’ shooting, then this camera is not for you. Look at the KaiserBaas Sports Camera instead. I have since heard back from KaiserBaas, and my guess was right. You cannot edit the footage as it is meant to be admissable in the case of legal process. I am not sure how we stand in Australia on this ground, with it being illegal as I understand it it to film people without their knowledge. I'll attempt to chase this down too. - See more at: http://australian-videocamera.com/issue/september-2013/artic…

Definitely not a problem to film people with a dashcam, it's in public.
