SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB $89 from MSY

690

Another cheap SSD offer where you can pick up from your local MSY. $89 (was $95) for SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB. It's the entry level SSD from SanDisk that was first available early last year. Good reviews on Amazon.

  • Is MSY in Morrabbin?

  • Do MSY sell external SSD enclosures? Would make a great combo.

    • +1

They have the Patriot Gauntlet 3 which is $18, would be a great combo

      • I'd avoid the gauntlet. It's a terrible design, very hard to remove the SSD once it's inside. For an extra $1 go the transcend store jet - much better design imo.

        • With the gauntlet, you need to remove ALL the screws (including the two securing the circuit board) in order to remove the drive. Otherwise, it's fine. No shock absorption, but it's fine for an SSD. You might want an enclosure that supports UASP for better performance.

I went with a Simplecom 2.5" enclosure off eBay for $22. Tool-less design making it easy to slide new drives in an out, but with a locking mechanism so that the drive doesn't slide out accidentally.

        • @coco1458: can you link me? im also hunting for one and $22 sounds like a good price.

        • +3

          @coco1458:
Why is it $22 this is a rip-off I purchased my one directly from simplecom's ebay site for $9.95 as far as I know this is exactly the same version SE203

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-3-0-Tool-Free-External-2-5-SA…

Using this enclosure with the Sandisk II 960gb I have experienced speeds of up to 420 MB/s over usb 3.0

        • @clint-008: hahaha I got ripped off. My bad

        • I understand your valid criticism, but using any/the-supplied small screwdriver to push the drive up (from below) is extremely easy.

  • $99 was considered pretty cheap this is the cheapest now

  • MSY Rep, please do a deal on OCZ ARC 100 240GB if you are seeing this.

    • +1

Any reason why are you specifically looking for OCZ one rather than consider this deal or other budget friendly SSDs like Transcend 370 or Crucial BX100 ?

      • OCZ ARC 100 is usually cheaper at regular price than those two are when on sale.

      • MLC controller and write speed of 400+ MB. Been using 120 GB version for last 1 year and its impressive. Write speed of this Sandisk SSD is barely 200 MB.

    • +6

No margin on the OCZ ARC :D

how about a deal on 27" normal ratio monitor ? thanks

        • -2

          Your welcome

      • Okay, placed an order for OCZ ARC 100 240GB @99$. Will pay with 28 Degrees so that I can claim shoppers protection in the next 6 months, will cost 2% more though.

  • Good deal, Thanks for posting Scotty.

It's $99 at ple. I'll pay $10 to not have to deal with MSY's "customer service"

    • +1

PLE might even be able to match MSY's price

    • +8

I'm not calling you out specifically, but I don't get this. Every time I have been to MSY (Balcatta) they have been quick, courteous, and helpful. (Much like PLE).

Are they that bad at other stores?

PLE don't charge a credit card surcharge, unlike MSY, which will reduce the difference further.

In my experience of dealing with two stores in Sydney (Ultimo, South Hurstville) it's been more that their sales staff have come across as 'surly'. I would say they're not rude - but they're not warm either. The whole thing feels very transactional. When I've had a warranty issue in the past, they've been super straight forward and easy to deal with.

        • Same, claimed a few warranty from MSY before and mostly they are on the spot replacement. Sometimes they will ask you wait for them to test the hardware but that's a fair procedure.

      • MSY in cannington is good, just bit busy at times so you end up waiting ages since only 1 person there most of the time i think. I still go to PLE though, that surcharge is just annoying.
Plus i luv testing the VR at ple and feeling sick afterwards :p

      • Balcatta is the only one I've been to and they act like it's a massive inconvenience to them every time I'm there.

you want HN customer service at MSY? walk in, pay, walk out :)

    • +3

Only because you need that sort of "customer service". It's like going to a $10 quick lunch joint and expecting to be served like a king.

  • I love my guys at MSY ultimo. There is one dude with glasses that gives me zero service but the other dudes are wonderful. I love my MSY.

Here in Vic I've been to 4 MSY stores. Best one was in Box Hill where they actually gave helpful feedback / advice when I didn't even ask for it. The other MSY stores were just like the soup nazi scene from seinfeld. Walk-in, Wait in Queue, present purchase list, Pay, Walk-out.. If anything beyond that, NO PC COMPONENTS FOR YOU! NEEEEEEEEEEXXXXXXTTTTTTTTTTTT!

      • It really depends on who you get and the timing. When I go in there and I get my dude we talk about what to buy and he gives me excellent advice. When I see it's my clueless mate who looks like he has seen a ghost, permanently, I just go to the computer and put in an order. He still manages to screw it up, usually.

MSY REP, can you please do a great deal on the Sandisk 480GB SSD?

  • i tried to call pascoevale store three attempts and then they drop off the phone. looks like they do not care about customer

    • +1

Definitely not the type of store to call. Normally I email 3 stores on a business day morning when its normally quiet for them. I usually get a response within 3 hours, then reply back with a stock hold request with my name. Otherwise best to rock up to your local store and be prepared for Out of Stock line..

  • Check this out, it is Centrecom so I can't post it.

Intel 120GB SSD 535 Series Retail Packaging $59

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-120gb-ssd-535-series-retai…

    • MSY has that for $53.

      • Retail?

Anyway they are far from me. Thanks.

        • Yeah I am spoilt, I live just around the corner. If you don't live close to them the savings are offset by the drive.

  • A SSD "deal" is being posted every 2 days. Are they really deals? Or just a reduction in price?

  • I found cheaper price $83.77. Please check out http://www.itspot.com.au/sandisk-ssd-plus-240gb-p582444.html…

    • +1

Not cheaper when postage is added

  • Dumb question time. Will this fit into any laptop that has a SATA hard drive or does the laptop specifically need to be USB3 capable? Looking at an older Dell E6500.

    • +1

If the existing HDD is 2.5 inch, then any SSD drive should be fine.
