NEED SOME ADVICE - Yet Another 'I Got Screwed by Scumtree' Story

Before anyone else says it, yes I admit, I'm an idiot!

Still appreciate some feedback about what recourse I have.

Saw something on Gumtree that was interstate. Contacted seller and she was happy to post it but wanted payment first. Funds transferred ($80 PayAnyone) and confirmed by her that it was received on Saturday.

Promised to send it on Tuesday and send me tracking number. Didn't hear from her so I texted. She gave me some story and said it will definitely be posted on Wednesday morning. NOTHING.

Now she's not answering phone/text/gumtree messages.

I have her full name, mobile and home address and have told her that I will report it to the WA police as THEFT. Also will report it to the bank as Theft/Fraud.

Apart from the obligatory 'bikies', can anyone think of anything else I can do?

    Do you have her postal or email address? You could consider sending a formal "letter of demand". This link provides some more information about sending a letter of demand:

      I have her home address and thanks for the suggestion.

        You think you have her address

          Nah I really do. She was selling some other crap on gumtree and I got the address by pretending to be another buyer interested in picking up the item.

          @gimme:

          Ok, so she can lie more than once?

          @oscargamer:

          She could but she's trying to sell something and sending a random buyer to another address wouldn't be in her interest. Also I got the details last week before it turned to sh*t while she was still being cooperative and no reason to suspect I was gathering info. She also kept messaging 'me' asking if I wanted to come around and look at the other item. She wouldn't do that if it was a fake address. Not that clever - Just some feral from Rockingham.

    Why would you do PAyanyone and not Paypal?

    • Would it have made any difference?

      • +1

        Payanyone - money is gone once paid

        Paypal - You can lodge dispute if there is any issue e.g. faulty product or product was not received etc.

        • Should have done that. Thought disputes didn't apply to random xfers such as this. Lesson learned.

        • @gimme: If you use family transfer option in Paypal then you can`t dispute.

          Always use Goods and Services option available in Paypal if doing manual transfer.
