Hey guys,
Let me preface this by saying I've only had my Red P's for a few months - so I know I'm not as experienced of a driver as I would like to be. I'm generally as cautious as possible and don't speed, etc.
So earlier this night I was on my way home (~1.5 hour commute from Campbelltown) after a 12 hour day. I usually just go from the A28 onto Windsor Road, but was dropping off a friend who needed to see a family member at Westmead Hospital whose surgery was running unusually late, and to send home another friend whose carpool had left without him.
I turned onto Mons Road from Darcy Road to drop my friend off at the hospital around 7PM. My remaining friend from the back seat began to direct me as I was not familiar with the area. He told me to go straight down the road towards Briens Road to get back onto the A28. Mons Road quite abruptly becomes a T-way for only 100 metres, which I now know.
It was already dark and by the time I saw the "no entry" sign see here , I was already on the bridge. At this point, I was 99% certain I had (profanity) up and frantically asked my friend if I was allowed on this road and he said he wasn't sure. I had no idea what a T-way was, and thought it might have been the same thing as a T-lane. I did not think it was a good idea to reverse or perform a U-turn, especially as I saw a bus driving towards me in the opposite lane, and I could see Darcy Road up ahead where I could exit the T-way.
My friend has been attempting to reassure me by saying we didn't see any camera flashes, but I've resigned myself at this point. I know I messed up and I'm mainly annoyed at myself for not noticing the signs earlier.
I honestly reckon a demerit point and a fine is probably a just punishment for my ignorance, but I was just wondering if there was any chance when I get the letter that I could get any leniency given the circumstances; and if anyone else has had any advice/experiences with T-way fines?
reversing would be quicker and safer (for me anyway).
