  • Is there anything cheaper for T-Mobile? I'll be in Hawaii for two weeks only and mainly looking for data a plus emergency calls. Looking for sub-$30 preferably.

    • Unfortunately not at the moment :(

      • Any more for Japan this coming week?

        Thanks

        • Inbox us if you need it urgently, otherwise next deal might be 2-3 weeks away!

        • @TravelSIMSDirect:
Any chance the deal will start soon?
I'm travelling to Japan end of next week and am considering the 30 day SIM.

  • Hey Op - would you have any sim cards for Europe/recommendations?

    • No, we have trialled a few in the past and the reception is very hit and miss depending on where you are and not the cheapest cards. Sorry!

  • so the sim card can be used in either a mobile phone or a pocket wifi?

  • I just arrived in Japan and the Lawson had a few different cards on offer I got 30 days for 4800 yen 3gb

    • is it similar to this - First 200MB per day at 4G speeds then unlimited 3G Data and on DoCoMo Network.

has it been fine for you?

    • any cards for 7/10 days use?

  • +6

not a great deal for the Japanese card - you can purchase a bmobile sim card (also uses docomo network) with unlimited data for 14 days at 2,204 yen (25.68AUD)
    http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/product.html
I've used this the last 2 times visiting Japan, haven't had any issues with it

    • +1

Yes, this is a good card…. I've used it on the last 3 visits, and I've ordered it again for my flight to Tokyo this week (collection at hotel).

There has obviously been a significant price reduction in this tourist sim, as I recall paying over 4k last time. The data allowance has also been significantly increased. Now it's "unlimited" 4g, and they only shape you if you use >1GB on 3 consecutive days.

    • Just back from Japan a couple of days ago, used two of these B Mobile SIM cards, one in an iPhone, one in an iPad. Bought two SIMs delivered to home in Sydney before we left from Amazon JP for A$57.

Was going really well other than some odd activation issues until clunk, the iPhone SIM was suddenly shaped so hard that couldn't even load pages. I'm pretty sure it didn't use more than 1GB per day for 3 days.

Decided to swap the SIMs and not use the iPad, as didn't have access to a voice capable SIM to call their English speaking help desk and try to get unshaped.

      • Hi,

How did you buy it from Amazon.co.jp?
I've tried to order it from here - http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language/product/B018H9PO5…

But it says it won't ship to Australian address ;(

        • Yeah, you're right, I'm seeing that now too. It worked from that link 3 weeks ago and was delivered expedited shipping in about 3 days. They must have changed it since I ordered. :(

      • +1

        @silvertone:

I'm under the impression that it's 1gb over 3 days, not 1gb per day.

        From: http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/faq.html#General

        The speed is slow

To maintain service quality for all users, JCI reserves the right to restrict the data transmission speed for customers who have used more than approximately 1GB over three consecutive days including the current day.

But it's really not that clear & I can't find any further info..

        • Yeah, that makes sense, 300MB per day would have been likely.

We were lucky to have a backup option but it would have been a killer if we hadn't with no way of getting unshaped.

        • @silvertone:
I'm in Japan and went over the limit last weekend, I turned on google photo sync, forgetting momentarily about the limit, the next day - shaped! It lasted about 3 days before it came good again, was such a PITA and horrendously slow.

Needless to say, I now only sync photos & update apps over wifi.

Bmobile isn't a perfect solution for us so I will shop around again for next year, total cost for 2 of us was $125 AUD, since we have to recharge to cover our 3 week visit.

    • I got this card from a Lawson at terminal 3 Narita http://ninjasim.jp/en/index.html uses NTT network also I just needed something for 30 days. Seems there is a variance in speeds and limits but all and all buying one here is fine, better off focusing on getting your Jr pass

    • I also just got back and the b mobile card works pretty well. I did get slower speeds in Kyoto and Osaka for some reason.

    • Have been recomending freinds to BMobile for years now and im getting a sim on Thursday from them again.

Great deals and great service since you can atleast visit Yodabashi store if things go weird.

    • used bmobile for my trip last month and it worked flawlessly. can't recommend it enough!

  • Thanks, I was hoping this sort of deal would come up again. I will be travelling to the US soon!

    • +1

Actually on second thoughts, this may be more suitable for me. 30 USD for 5GB and 100 minutes talk. I might grab it at Walmart straight after the airport.

  • Just got back from 2 weeks in Japan, used B-mobile without issue in and between Tokyo and Hiroshima.

Personally I got the sim from Yodobashi Camera in Osaka when arriving (other locations available), a must see huge multi-level electronics dept store (youtube it), just the phone cover section alone was bigger than any dicksmith entire store I've seen, highly recommend checking it out. If tech challenged like me ask the store to set the sim up for you.

  • +1

I have used the USA T-Mobile sim from these guys. Worked beautifully!!

  • Can you tell me if the T mobile sims have all the standard inclusions for pre-paid as per their website, such as "binge on"? Thanks.

    • Hey! As long as it is the corresponding plan and your activation date coincides with promos etc then yes. But sometimes T-Mobile will suddenly end promos etc so by the time your card gets activated it may not get it (it will always get the actual plans stuff though)! :)

I purchased the docomo unlimited for 14 days and it did not work on my iPhone 6 Plus. I had a lot of trouble when I arrived at Tokyo Narita Terminal 3 on 5th of April and walked all the way to Docomo in Terminal 2, but they could not work out the problem. I followed all instructions at least 5 times and emailed Travel Sim Direct.

They have not offered a refund, even though I took screenshots as they requested. They have a money back guarantee for circumstances such as this but seem to by the sort of company that ignore or go quiet when an issue arises. Really not a happy customer and don't appreciate to be told they have over 60 customers with no issues.

After having gone to Tokyo, save yourself the hassle and extra cost of these pre-set up sims, and visit the booths at the airport when you arrive as they offer better deals, even pocket wifis for rental. I opted to hire a pocket wifi which was really handy.

    • +3

That doesn't sound right at all. We are notorious for being prompt and supportive in all correspondence and known for having a no questions asked refund policy - in fact many times we don't just give a full refund but compensate further if it is an unforeseeable technical issue just to help our customers out.

What was your order number? I will chase up all your concerns. We have been trolled by competitors before on here. Hope you are not one of them!

      • +1

Looks like Jaycor joined just to leave that comment… suspicious to say the least.

        • +1

We are used to it by now. Probably just the Sim Corner guys up to their old ways sadly.

        • -2

Hey simulacrum - you're right that I joined just to leave that comment. But hey, I logged in again. I am genuinely upset about my experience when I arrived in Japan. I've regularly check the Ozbargain site for about a year now and have found great bargains on here. People have different reasons for joining, and surely there are people like me who just check the site without posting/commenting. My reason for joining is because I felt I wasn't being heard by TravelSIMSDirect and was hoping for a response from them on here because they ignored my second email to them. Hopefully this will resolve my issue! Peace!

        • -1

@TravelSIMSDirect: Travelsim - I think what's sad is that I am a genuine customer that you did not assist. I read on your site that you have a refund policy but didn't know it was that easy. Many times you give a full refund and compensate further? If only my email was responded to let me know this.

I have the sim, envelope and letter at home and can send it back to you. Heck I can drive over to Narre Warren from Fitzroy to return it tomorrow. It didn't work and caused me a lot of issues when I arrived in Tokyo! I got the sim out of wanting convenience when I arrive as I struggle to adjust to a country that I haven't been to before due to several factors - differences in language, location, infrastructure, network, culture and so on. When I had a sim that didn't work it really made things difficult for me on my arrival.

Where can I find my order number?

  • I am flying out next Sat. If I order the USA sim card today, will I be able to receive it by next week before I leave?

    • Absolutely! If you're rural maybe express post is the go!

      • Hi, I have received my sim and tried to use it today when I have arrived in NY. I can see there is signals from T-Mobile however I am having trouble activating it. I called T-Mobile and they said i need to pay for the service (which i have already paid to TSD). The sim arrived without phone number or activation code. It was just a blank sim. It was very frustrating. I have emailed TSD regarding this issue. Would appreciate if someone from TSD can help me activate it.

        • Ho bklloOOO, there was a T-Mobile outage over the weekend (over there). It has been resolved now. Can you please remove the sim, reinsert and turn your phone back on. Let me know if you have anymore issues but should be all good!

  • +1

These guys are great. I had a issue when I landed in the USA in Jan and emailed them and within 20 minutes the service was up and working. Just got 3 more for June and waiting on the next sale for Sept for when i am over there again.

    • Thanks for the kind words!

  • Hi, any for thailand?

    • Not at the moment, sorry!

  • I'm going to be spending some time split between USA/Canada/USA. Does the T-Mobile SIM also work in Canada, as per the prepaid coverage link? http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-coverage

Also, i'll be in North America a total of 5 weeks. Do you know if there's a cheaper dollar value i could recharge with for the 5th week once the 30 days has expired?

    • I just wanted to clarify Canada coverage as it appears there are a combination of 6gb/10gb/unlimited plans that include usage of included value in Canada

      • +1

Hi mate, we haven't had any of our customers try it in Canada yet so we are reserved to guarantee it does work there and/or the reliability of the coverage in Canada. Though if it is on the site it should in theory work!

        • Thanks!

        • I made an order on Friday night 29/04. Just wondering if it's been posted or if it should have arrived by now as I'm still waiting. Cheers

        • +1

@quackster: It would of been dispatched Monday 2nd. Where about in Australia are you? We are in Melbourne, most metro areas, it should of reached you by now.

  • I placed an order on 4/5/16 and have also not received my sim card. I have also sent numerous emails and PM's on Facebook and have not gotten any replies. Please advise if a replacement sim will be sent out to me ASAP as I will be departing next week. Order number is 4944.

    • Hi nelzzy, can confirm you contacted us on Facebook on Wednesday the 18th, we replied within 5 hours. When it was clear that your order was a case of lost mail we express posted a replacement promptly and you got it in time to enjoy.
Patience is a virtue, please remember when you say things like you got no replies at all when it isn't the truth it effects our reputation a lot.
      Thanks, hope you are enjoying!

  • Ordering now for our trip to Japan, can't wait. Thank you! Don't want to be mucking around at a terminal so this is perfect idea and great price.

  • Oh expired, never mind :-(
