Battery saver/battery doctor app LG G4

Hi,
Lately my battery on LG G4 seeks to run down quite quickky more often now.
In the menu and go to the battery section, I select all power saving modes, turn off location etc, also shut down any apps that seem to be running, but still battery is not lasting at all.
It was new in October.

What do you recommend to help if I can get longer battery life during the day ??

I'm now using power bank more often and for longer ….just to get through the day.

Thanks in advance.

Closing apps via the task manager will increase your battery drain if you start them again later.

Battery saving apps/RAM managers will also have that effect - unless the app you're closing is badly written and keeping the device awake (Facebook, for example), you'll likely see higher battery drain than savings.

If you want to preserve battery:
Turn on airline mode when you're not using your phone and you don't require connectivity (business hours, perhaps).
Turn off mobile data when you're not using it.
Turn off other radios (wifi/BT) when you're not using them.
Reduce screen brightness (minor savings only).
If you have the FB app installed, uninstall it and use a web browser instead.

    • Good tips.
      Thanks.

      Don't have the FB app.
Was using the auto setting on screen brightness, but found it often went to 100% or so dim at other times I couldnt see the screen…..so now I just keep it at 65% and manually adjust if needed. Its a shame though, that the screen isn't/can't be used to its full benefit during the day.
I found I have to keep turning off the virgin mobile app. So I unisntalled that as well.
Location is off, unless I'm needing to use it on a rare occasion.
I do keep my phone on all day for text messages and OzB updates 😇
Though have things such as emails etc set to sync only on manual.

Maybe the battery is on its final way out??

If the battery saver apps don't help, any other advice?

All of your lifes problems will be over with a little zerolemon.

That should hopefully last me through the day…..
      Cheers

      • i have one on my note 2 (reasons why i cant part with it now) and its great, 4 days batteyr life and it has 13.5 to 14 hours of screen on time with hours of calls, sat naving.

the new phone i get will get a zerolemon straight off the shelf in the first week but removable batteries are hard to come by now.

        • Thanks for the recommendation and good feedback.
Pretty much just sold me on one of those now then.

@albanyson: yep, and the 180 day warranty is at least something you can fall back on but remember to follow the directions of the slip that the battery comes in with to calibrate your phone to the extra juice.

tighten that belt or purchase some suspenders.

my 9300mAh battery with the note 2 adds up to over 300grams.

My advice would be just to buy a extra battery and charging kit (all in one, genuine from LG and comes with a charger so you can charge it overnight in addition to the phone's original battery. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-G4-Battery-Charging-KIT-BCK-48…

A lot smaller carrying around a single battery than a power bank.

EDIT: changed to a more reputable ebay seller.

    • I got the phone from QD in October last year.
Seems a new battery is the next alternative.
      Thanks.

      • Also, have you upgraded to Android M (6.0)? That could potentially help a bit.

        • Did the upgrade when it was released.
          6.0 version.

I never noticed it making any improvments at all in battery performance.

Did have some good other features though

Power off occassionally is the best solution I've found to completely reset running apps

    • Noted. Restarting phone didnt seem to make any difference that was noticeable.
      Thanks.

Honestly your best bet is to purchase a new battery and see if if that fixes the problem. If that however does not fix the draining issue i would recommend factory resetting your phone to see if it solves it :)

Looks like a new battery purchase is next option……
I'm hoping I don't have to do a factory reset, losing all login and other stored details.

Hopefully a new battery won't be depleted by some spurious app or programme
      Thanks

Well at this point just get a new battery and see if it solves the problem. Most likely you won't need to do a factory reset

Or if you ever look at getting a new phone I'm getting 2 weeks per battery charge with this

thats a nice looking phone. $211 free shipping from gearbest but yeh looks nice with them specs.

  • If you have your phone rooted, why not test whether there is something that's staying on background constantly waking your phone up?
It does have an option for non-root phones as well, so if you are interested:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.w…

    • Most LG G4 have a locked bootloader, so no marshmallow root possible. I have recently noticed battery usage has dramatically increased on mine and I can't find any app that will show me wakelocks for non-root marshmallow. I'm really missing the tracking I got in BetterBatteryStats and 3C Toolbox (with root).

      • The developer for that app provides a non-root option that utilises USB debugging (not sure whether it works with Marshmallow though), so I assume that doesn't work with marshmallow?

If not, then I think using the basic battery stat, you could try deducing what might be causing a problem. I'd personally start with suspecting Google apps (Maps or Play Services) and any SNS app (especially facebook) as the culprit, because I found them to be always the cause in my cases.

        • Thanks for getting me to look at this again, I can now confirm that Wakelock Detector [LIGHT] will work in MM with a locked bootloader, instructions here and use the LG ADB drivers from here. Unfortunately you need to re-enable it via your PC on every reboot, but it works.

Of course on my G4 I think the reboot resolved the issue, but this will help me find the problem next time.

It also nicely integrates with GREENIFY for stopping the apps running.

OP, even if you do get a new battery this will actually tell you what app is causing the problem.

        • @OZB Al: I thought greenify and doze mode sort of overlap in what they do, am I not correct in this?

To OP, wakelock detector doesn't detect any problems with Screen On Time as much as it does with standby battery (it simply detects events that stops the phone from sleeping). If the problem that you have is not standby battery related, this probably wouldn't be able to detect it.

        • @Oversimplified: my guess is that an app is waking the phone before before the doze timeout, so it's never actually getting to doze. But I couldn't test it without the app, so can't be sure.

Greenify and doze do overlap a bit, but Greenify allows you to force specific apps to do exactly what you want, rather than hoping it will automatically work things out. Greenify also has an "Aggressive doze" setting that I may try, it basically shortens the doze timeouts.

        • @OZB Al: I thought that was the purpose of the doze feature, to stop apps from waking the phone up too much by anything that's not high prioirty to not wake the phone up.

Eh, I've personally found Greenify on non-rooted phone to be slightly finicky. Though that might be just me.

I dunno, I don't have a phone with marshmallow currently (I blame Telstra, Vodafone and Optus, because Marshmallow is out for my model in other places) so I might be off with what Doze actually is capable of. Though, I kind of don't trust it since all my problems with standby battery was with Google apps.

Check battery stats in settings and see what is using the battery most.

    And adjust from there.

Otherwise a new battery might be in order.
