i tried a similar talking blood pressure from aldi and the talking feature was incredibly annoying

You stop it talking to you by switching volume down or OFF.

buy one and give it to your wife when she gets really angry at you.

    Mothers Day sorted?

  • Aghh, just more reasons for people to call an ambo when they see a low reading on the dial. Just please don't panic reset the whole thing and take the reading again.

  • my doc was telling me that blood pressure isn't that indicative. She reckons you could take consecutive readings and get different results.

    • time to find another GP is suspect. individual readings are NOT necessarily important but trend of elevate readings IS. No GP will put someone on treatment for one elevated reading. But consistent high readings can indicate an issue and if specific test suggest essential hypertension then is should be treated to avoid long term complications.

        Isn't that what Davo said?

i like the way you agreed and disagreed with me in the same sentence

      • I wouldnt tell someone to change GPs just because of that

    • What your doctor is saying is correct - consecutive readings can have different results - but the variation is unlikely to be too much - and as outlined by soupratt above - if you have consistent BP measurements in the hypertension range above 140/90 then appropriate control is required (e.g. antihypertensives) to reduce the risk of stroke and other morbidities. Also, if you repeat a measurement of blood pressure in the same arm immediately, you will get inaccurate results, you should wait a couple of minutes at least. TLDR: Blood Pressure is a very important diagnostic tool, but is best interpreted by a clinician

    • my doc was telling me that blood pressure isn't that indicative. She reckons you could take consecutive readings and get different results

that's the point of home monitoring, so you can see an overall trend from readings taken at various times during the day

    • There is an option for it to take 3 consecutive readings over a 3 minute period & it will then give you the average reading of those 3 readings.

  • Can anyone help me send one to wa? It is really good price.

  • woolworths nationwide?

    • I've neve seen these (or any similar products) at any Woolworths store I've been to in WA, so they may not carry them as a stock line here.

Don't avoid the chance to say: sphygmomanometer.

Clinically Validated for Accuracy (with a snake/pole/wings logo).

None of these words inspire confidence, especially with accuracy capitalised and the non-relevance of the logo.

And the talking feature is a cheap selling pitch.

I will neg this because even at $29.80, it's poor value.

Plenty of better quality - and certainly certified/tested devices for a bit more. Still nothing beats the good old manual way.

    • I was reading Amazon reviews and, apart from the usual "great product, it works", one person actually took it to their doctors to compare. The verdict was that this device gave extremely inaccurate readings.

      • +1

i suspect it give accurate as far as home monitors go. i tested a cheapo $29 aldi one vs top of the line omron ones and they both gave similar results.

  • How accurate is this? Most cheap home ones are not accurate at all, and there's no way to calibrate it correctly.

    • +1

I'm not a GP but part of my job is to integrate these devices in to medical software… having played around with a few of these things, typically the ones that are a bit more upmarket, i.e. worth $5000+ I can tell you that even those ones can vary quite a bit.

  • Anyone seen any in Melbourne? I checked Richmond and Camberwell but there were none.

    • none in Karingal
