Xiaomi Mi Pad - 16GB, 2GB RAM, Tegra K1, White - $186 Includes Shipping @Android Enjoyed

90

I've been on the hunt for the cheapest Xiaomi Mi Pad and have ended up on this.
After deciding between this and the Mi Pad 2, this seems to be the go with its expandable memory and beasty Tegra K1 GPU.

I had never been to android-enjoyed before and after browsing and then leaving, I was offered a coupon of $10 off! CODE is "BEFOREYOUGO", Shipping is rather expensive, so this brings it down nicely.

  • Just want to let you Ozbargainers know that the battery will not last as long as you would expect.

    • I've had stellar battery life with all my Xiaomi devices. Can you elaborate?

      • +1

From all accounts on previous offers at this vendor it's a poorly repackaged second hand product. From the comments on previous deals I'm confused as to why this vendor isn't banned

Hmm you're right and now thinking about it I do remember these guys being cautioned. Looks like I'll buy from aliexpress.

      • Sorry. I refer to the Mi Pad 2. Got it two months ago pretty much at the same price. That is fir my 3 yo son. He mainly uses it for Youtube and Video viewing. Would not last long compare to the samsung ones.

    • How long is it?

  • great pad, better than mi pad 2, still waiting for the delivery from last Aliexpress deal.

    • But you'll be stuck on an old Android ver, because Xiaomi isn't going to upgrade older hardware to newer firmware.

I got an Mi4 recently which was a 2014 flagship, have the latest MIUI on it, but it's still running 4.4.4 and probably will never get 6.0. It didn't even get 5.0 or 5.1.

      • android 4.4 on miui 7.2 is ok for almost all apps. I have both redmi note 3 and redmi note 1. Both miui 7.2, one is android 4.4 and the other one is 5.0. However I could not tell any difference apart from check the system info.

        • Android 6 lets the device identify the SD card as internal memory, which means you can install apps onto it.

          @lostn:
only if the manufacturer lets it. Most phone makers dont allow that for the SD, no idea why.

      • Android 6 is now available for the mi4: http://en.miui.com/download-240.html

The China dev, China Stable and Global dev Roms have it. I assume global Stable will be available with Android 6 shortly.

Have you acually tried that? That is not Android 6. That is just the latest MIUI, which is still on 4.4.4.

I don't know about global dev, but 6.4.21 to me doesn't mean Android 6.4.21. Android isn't up to 6.4 yet.

Same way Global stable isn't running Android 7.2.11.0 either.

        • @lostn:

Look at the end of the file name of the Global China, Stable China and Dev China, (as compared to Global Stable), they are MM (6.0). I follow the miui forums, check them out if you are interested in knowing if there's an official MM ROM for the mi4.

6.4.21 is the date of release of the ROM (Y.M.DD), nothing to do with version of Android.

  • Just picked up a Windows 10 - Chuwi 8" for $105:
    http://www.banggood.com/Chuwi-Vi8-Plus-32GB-Intel-X5-Cherry-…

    • Can it run desktop apps?

Also, that resolution… for an 8" tab, you get what you pay for.

      • You can get a dual boot hi8 pro with 1920 x 1200 for 91 usd on bangood. After the 4.8% cashback it is arond $110 so super cheap.

        • I can only see it for $99.99 USD there. It has 32GB ROM, but is that partitioned so that half of it is Android and the other half Windows?

32GB is not enough for a Windows system.

        • @lostn:

Can always install a 64gb microSD in it.

        • Same battery does not last as long and is dual boot (something I'm trying to avoid)

        • You need to use a coupon code per slick deals. http://slickdeals.net/f/8676539-chuwi-hi8-pro-32gb-intel-z83…

        • @gottacatchemall:
There is a ~$20 coupon in the description for this product (bringing the $125 down to 105). Can't stack discount codes.

      • It has full windows, so yes. With a low spec processor, its only going to be pretty basic.
There are devices with higher res from only a few $$$ more, mostly dual boot (was trying to avoid) and with smaller battery or some other hindrance.
Lower res = lower battery consumption, it will mostly be used for its HDMI output and browsing.

        • is Z8300 better than Z3736f?

        • @lostn: Z8300 is newer and better architecture, less powerful but less draw, not much in it.

        • @noone025: So, an overall downgrade then, but more expensive.

        • @lostn: less draw is a positive, so not an instant downgrade. Traditionally costs more in mobile devices.

        • @Utopian: It's a definite positive, but if it also comes with a slower processor, it's not a tradeoff that benefits me, because I never use it long enough to run the battery out. If it was same speed but less draw, it's a clear cut positive.

Overall though, it depends on how you use it.

        • @lostn: Agreed. My laptop is fire-breathing… For 2hrs :D

Company purchases: Ultra portables that last 3-12hrs.

    • Hmm… white is $5 more than black. Tough decision.

I need an answer on whether X5 Z8300 is faster than Z3736f which I have in my other dual boot tablet, but find pretty slow in Win 10.

Can this thing run visual novels? They usually require a Pentium 4 desktop, running no faster than 2Ghz.

TL;DR About same speed, but more efficient.

        • What does efficiency mean? Longer battery life?

If these are things that the eye cannot see, they mean nothing to me. Battery life would be useful. Anything else?

Seems like a better idea to buy the older model with Z3736f. Is z3736f slower than Z3770?

        • Yes, longer battery, less heat.

          Is z3736f slower than Z3770?

          cpuboss…

        • @McFly: Decided to pass on the Chuwi since my existing dual boot tablet's SOC is already better than the Z8300. Not as 'efficient' but it's fine. I don't use it long enough to drain the battery and the case means I don't feel the heat.

I'm a bit surprised that the Mi Pad 2's SoC is in many ways a downgrade over Mi Pad 1 (especially GPU), despite releasing a few years later.

I think Intel has a long way to go. If all Cherry trail did was a die shrink but didn't increase processing speed, that's a huge letdown, similar to their desktop CPUs which in 2016 are only 10% faster than an Ivy Bridge.

  • +1

dont buy from that online shop. period.

    • Indeed, they have an awful reputation. There is a reason they are often the cheapest place

  • Cheap and nasty
