FYI I used an Intel NUC with N2820 and a HP laptop with N2840. Both are pretty slow even with a SSD drive.

You'll notice the lag when you're scrolling with two web tabs open. N2940 was slightly better though.

Price is OK, but if you can wait for the sub $400 deals with Pentium N3700 or i3 N5010, its a much better laptop IMO.

    • I bought one of these, the i3-N5010U

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233630, and since i went overseas so i got about $46 tax back which made it sweeter! :)

But i think 4GB RAM is simply not enough, after i opened a couple tabs of Google Chrome, the RAM usage will go up to 70% or above… I was also planning to get another 4GB RAM from previous RAM deals but worried i would void the warranty..

      • Adding or changing (upgrading) RAM doesn't void the warranty. In fact, if anything goes wrong with your laptop and if you have any concerns, you can always fit the original one.

Your problem is chrome, it's always been a resource hog…

        • Yup. My Acer with the better N2940 could barely run it until I installed it on an SSD.

processor is crap not worth buying

  • Yup … as wombok2 suggests N2940 is about as low as you should go on a shoestring budget.
Currently using N3540 / 4gb ram with decent performance.

N3700 is where it's at. The Dell Inspiron that Scotty posted last time for $399 is a good device for the money as that also included a 128GB SSD.

    This will be pokey…

  • I reckon Quad Core Pentiums should be the lowest users should go, but each to their own.

    • Do you relate that to every purchase in life?

      • For starters we're talking low end entry level laptops. So no to every purchase in life.

However I can say I've never bought a Celeron, and cpu's in that lowest rung, for entry level laptops a quadcore Pentium was the only choice on my last purchase for young son. I find they're doable for internet browsing/Office and low end gaming (cs:go). (Dell Inspiron 14 3000 replaced SSD and 4Gb ram new wifi adaptor).

        In the Mobile Arena:
Atom CPU's no thanks, not in a laptop.
Celeron nope. (IMO don't perform good enough with some of todays heavy content websites)
Pentiums (quadcore gives a okay experience-just)
Core i3 (should start here if a bargain can be found)
Core i5 i7 (if the need suits)

        There's a reason there's a term coined 'Cel-Her-On'.

        • Never heard/read it… Just Celery, which is light & healthy :)

"Premium performance doesn't require a premium price"

    And then it says Celeron.

    Um, no.

  • Appears the price has increased to $549
