Why the vote downs? He has a point.
My wild guess is the "Base" console will retail for $199 US ($299 here).

I don't think they'd release a new superior model at nearly half the price of the existing model. If anything it will be $600+.
He's not talking about NEO, he's talking about the base/vanilla model; ie, the one in this "bargain". The thing is, there really is no excuse for buying a PS4 now. Not one single PS4 should sell between now and when the NEO comes out, and anyone who buys one is either ignorant or stupid. I feel it's our job to educate the n00bcannons so they dont buy this deal thinking it's good - it is not. This is not a deal in the context of what is happening with the PS4 atm.
Edit - and im not bashing the PS4. I don't have one and im thinking about getting one, but i seriously expect to be able to get a second hand one for $100 or less this year, after the NEO comes out and the base model has whatever price reduction it will inevitably get (as the other guy said $300 new seems a good bet).
Maybe 2-3 months worth of dark souls 3 is worth more than a potential $150 saving to me? You can always hang out for a better deal on consoles/games but there is an opportunity cost. If I don't have ds3 taking up all my time for the next 3 months I may waste more than $150 on other crap to fill up my time! š
Jesus, really? $100 or less. You have a point on the NEO coming out but you come across as a sausage.
Ok I understand now, thanks for the info (I still think it won't be cheaper, maybe the 4k model will just be more, but who knows you could be right).
Avoided a buy either way.
This isnt the base version its the 1TB version that also runs a bit quieter, plus theres no point in buying the new Neo (that doesnt release until october, thats speculated release) unless you have a 4k tv, for most people this is a pretty good deal plus its unique.
That's utter garbage. 4K is irrelevant. It streams at 4K but nobody cares about that. The reason it's better is because it is significantly more powerful than the existing PS4 and will run all games in superior res and frame rate. In fact, games will have a "neo" mode and a "base" mode. So don't go spouting this 4k nonsense and misleading people. The NEO is a significant step up over the PS4 and u most certainly do not need a 4K tv to see that. There will still be hardly any (if any) native 4K games on the NEO. That is not the point. The point is whatever it does, it's gonna do it way better than current PS4. Think of it like this: current PS4 runs a game at 720p and 30 frames, on the NEO it will be 1080 and 60 frames. Nothing to do with 4K
(Mod: Personal attack removed - final warning)
I think the language you use borders on abusive - no place for it on here IMO and would rather not see users like you present.
You have your point of view but there is a counter argument:
- Neo not available for 6, possible more months - a long time to wait if you want PS4 games now or to use other PS4 features like Netflix etc
- Neo likely to cost $599 or more at launch (see Xbox Elite which is no where near as powerful or expensive to produce…)
- Base model package like the above might only drop to $399 RRP
I have to wonder at your age and state of mind…
@lghulm: Well, nonetheless, what i said is absolutely correct. To suggest that one needs a 4K tv to utilise the NEO is misleading at best. 4K is entirely irrelevant so people shouldn't be put off by that. There will prolly be zero 4K games on the NEO, except maybe robot golf or games with garbage graphics anyway. So let's move away from this 4K myth - or that u need a 4K tv, which is just plain wrong.
It has everyting to do with 4k, sure its being upscalled but it will be a major selling point, again this is all speculation as sony have not released official information, if this was the price in 6 months you'd have an argument but here and now this is a decent deal for someone that wants a ps4
It has everyting to do with 4k
No, it doesn't. The Neo will most likely run at higher fps, you don't need a 4K display to benefit from this.
if this was the price in 6 months you'd have an argument but here and now this is a decent deal for someone that wants a ps4
There's more to bargain hunting than just "the best price at the moment". When dropping half a grand on a completely unnecessary entertainment purchase, thinking 6 months in advance is sensible.
yeah theres also a small game called uncharted 4 coming out ppl might want to play. I think the NEO is releasing closer to end of year so whos to say you cant just sell/trade your original one then too. But not everyone needs/wants a PS4.5 and will be happy with this
as long as ppl are aware "this" will be half the price it currently is in a few short months.
The original model hasn't been half price so why would this one?
So much knowledgeable inputerers here suggesting the PS4 will be rubbish with Neo… I'm in the other camp - the PS4 still has its place, at least for a while to come…
Consider that the Neo will most surely come at a higher price. It'll be the new shiny one that retailers push and PS4 will be a lower-tier offering. Expect retailers to want to shift stock with clearance-like prices very soon, as when the Neo does hit they will get even less for the PS4, but still it's not going to be junk prices and the consoles have generally held their value OK, right?
For those inclined, the right clearance PS4 deal now will make good sense and the right price will buffer against price reductions when the Neo comes along. But yeah, 6+ months is a while to wait for some. Those also inclined could sell the PS4 to recoup at least some cost for a Neo upgrade later. We're not buying assets that go up in value here, so value loss is inevitable, just try to minimise it and not get a crap deal!
For the record, I'm very keen for a PS4 in the next few weeks so eager to see what deals come out now that news of the Neo is out and EOFY is approaching…
It's all a bit iPhone 6 vs 6S… It will be mildly better, but the PS4 nutters will be raving about and how it changes gaming as we know it.
I say buy a PS4 now, enjoy it, it's a great gaming console. Play it till the Neo has been out a while and actually has games that are worth playin on it, maybe 12 to 18 months from now and the Neo will be doing the specials rounds by then as well with bundled deals…
Though to add, I'd reckon at the 500GB being the better deal, assuming it's more likely to be clearing at lower prices/margins and will have enough space for a while before migrating to a bigger hybrid drive (which would probably happen with the 1TB too, just a little later)… wonder if I'd get a consensus on that here?
Anyone know when the new PS4.5 come out? I heard it supports 4K gaming.
Obvious troll is obvious…
I thought the game expert in here might know.

There is literally a whole page dedicated to what you were asking, just in this thread alone, and it has already caused a few fanboys to get their hackles up. A good Google search would have netted more reliable and accurate information and taken less to type.
Hence, my original statement stands.
Where is the link?
How does one tell if the PS4 you're about to buy is the updated CUH-1200?
all the 1tb consoles being sold now are the newer model ( i think it's been like that since october)
since i bought my ps4 at the start of april when big w had their sale and it was the CUH-12XX model so did plenty of other people that've bought ps4's recently
I thought i was loooosing my mind
lol uncharted vs unchartered
I would have worded that differently but you're right; it's a good idea to hold out for the PS4k/Neo. This is a good deal if you need to get your PS4 fix now though.
