https://www.fasttech.com/forums/promotions/t/1982317/promoti…

I posted this seeing as so many people buy eneloops on here and lots of people are in the market for high powered AA torches. so this torch is worth a look at its performance is similar to the Nitecore EA41 the 960 the 2014 edition!

  • Good price, an excellent torch already in my collection. Its been on here a couple of times for about that price.

    • what torches do you have?

I just took my EA41 out side it doesn't get much use now days.

      • +5

The best solution for people with 18650 is something like the Nitecore MH20
I have a EA4 and EA41 and since I got the Nitecore I very rarely use them or let kids use them

The difference in weight and size is amazing
Trust me once you use a single 18650 with approx 1000 lumens you won't ever want to use one of these

I have a few 3000 lumen torches but only use them when necessary
This deal is well worth it as an additional light to be kept/used somewhere (especially since eneloops abound in this community)

WOW the Nitecore MH20 is only $49 USD with this coupon code IT WORKS!!!

        https://www.fasttech.com/products/2890400

        • yea mate i just built a convoy c8 with a XPL-HI on a direct drive board should be good for about 1300 lumen i have a couple of single 18650 torches putting out about 1600 lumen then i have my monsters i only use them for fun i don't usually need over 1k lumen and i EDC a 16340 500 lumen light nothing major

        • +2
        • @thelastnoob: i think you can get the TM16 for around the same price?

        • @thelastnoob: enjoy the coupon mate! I m might pick up some 18650s seeing as my ones from gearbest got lost in the post…

        • @aussieprepper:
I don't think I can use it since the 6800 lumen torch is not discounted :(
          https://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10002811/4217401-niwa…

        • @thelastnoob: i should apologize to your family now 100% goes on lights lol… what are you after more power?

        • @aussieprepper: IS that still happening? There was a ban on shipping them as loose batteries. Fine in a pack for laptops/power tools etc. But the loose cells were getting hit hard after being suspected of bringing down aircraft. With cheap Chinese cells wouldnt surprise me.

        • @aussieprepper:
I have for Flood with 2800 lumen Olight SR Mini and I wanted to boost it with something like a Thrunite TN36 or similar

        • @Tuba: I'm not sure mate i order them at that exact time that is probably why they are MIA paypal gave me a refund any ways so its okay but i did order vtc4 i was so excited now my dreams are broken i have built so many light with direct drives i want to use them to the full potential…

        • @thelastnoob: i will have a look to see what i can find and post it here

        • @thelastnoob: 18650s are good (I carry a 16340 myself), but li ion is not for everyone. Care is needed, and knowledge is paramount. Most people cant be arsed with the learning curve, and absent the curve, you wont appreciate the danger fully.

If you see the injury potential from just the gas (HF) they give off when they go bad, you might think twice, let alone fire and shrapnel risks. Id prefer to stash a D40A with Lithium primaries in it as an emergency or prepper light. As an emergency light it will be fine to use 20 yrs from now and holds up better in cars etc, Eneloops would be my next choice.

Theres a guy with HF poisoning from series 18650s and he might as well have emphysema. His lungs will never recover. Singles are easier to manage, but not if drained too far too often, and sometimes too often is once. Same bloke had his glass balcony wall shattered and the metal rail it was mounted to busted from the wall due to impact from the torch body.

Its not like an Energizer leaking. LOL.

        • @aussieprepper: I got HEIIs, 25Rs and VTC5s and a couple of Efest 35s through just fine, but I didnt order from BG or FT etc.

        • @Tuba: yea i seen that post on BLF he had a ultrafire torch i believe… i have hg4s and 25r for my high drain gear…

        • @aussieprepper: Nah I cant recall what it was, but I thought it might have been high end. The torch wasnt the issue. He put in ?6? series batteries, not balanced. One too low, sucked the life out of its neighbour at too high a C rate, and thermal cascaded the good cell.

          A pipe bomb.

        • @Tuba: i am more worried about the vapors and there sub ohm mods FFS
          http://mic.com/articles/133790/a-16-year-old-teen-suffered-s…

this one is newer it a video also extreme
          http://www.theguardian.com/global/video/2016/feb/26/man-catc…

its a hard practice to teach people to weary of lithium and to use proper procedures when handling them.

        • @aussieprepper: That servo one shows when it first erupts out like a jet the pressure that would build in a torch, that we want sealed tightly so its waterproof.

I highly recommend anyone thinking about a li ion torch, watch that, then ensure youre informed about care of li ion. Pay good money for decent quality cells, the right charger, and never drain the cell too far.

Or just buy the D40A above and enjoy.

        • @thelastnoob: You should post these as a different deal… cause the torches you've linked at those prices seem like a massive bargain!

        • @thelastnoob

The MH20 has an estimated usage time of 235 hours.

Is that for real? You get 235 hours on one charge?

        • @thelastnoob:
          @Tuba:

I work as a paramedic and need a new torch to go in my pocket would the Nitecore MH20 be suitable for this?
It's mostly for lighting up dark pathways, houses or scenes and not actually shining in patients eyes!
Will it be safe if it gets knocked around and sometimes I sleep with it in my pocket?

        • @Jinx:
As long as you have a good brand authentic protected battery it should be safe
The best practice for these torches is to lock them out usually by unscrewing the bottom a little so it cannot be activated when in a bag or pocket while sleeping

          NOTE:
When MH20 is transported or left unused for extended periods, Nitecore recommends loosening
the head to lock out and cut off power, thus saving battery power and preventing accidental activation of
          the flashlight.

        • @thelastnoob:

Yeah I probably wont be doing that. Any recommendations for something similar that I dont have to loosen the head?

        • @Jinx:
I am not sure. I just checked the MH12 and that needs loosen head
I know the EA4 and EA41 have a lockout mode where you just hold buttons down to lock the torch

Aussieprepper do you have any suggestions?

        • +1

          @Jinx: check messages mate.

        • @thelastnoob: EA41 and D40A are fat. Not convenient pocket lights. It will fit in a pocket, and camping or occasional carry its great, but every day, not so much. In a jacket pocket it would be awesome, but pants is not ideal. 18650 is heavy and long in the pocket and would annoy you often, let alone if you sleep on it, and a decent light only makes this worse. I used to EDC a Sunwayman V25C (18650), but Ive long since stopped that in favour of single CR123 and 16340.

        • @Tuba:

By pockets I mean cargo pants pocket and sleeping on a couch (when I get the chance). So something palm size isn't such a problem if it is lightweight.

        • @Jinx:

          Check out Olight Baton

      • @AussiePrepper Fenix TK61, Nitecore MT2A, Solarforce s2200, a few Supbeams (Acebeam) two in the triple XML2s (x40) and a single K50, couple of Mags, Sunwayman V25C (had 3, now 2), a Sunwayman V11R, pair of BLF SE Eagle Eye X6s, XinTD ?X3?, a Microfire Tactical HID, one of the better HD2010s when they were still about, 1/2 dozen Brinytes, theres more but thatll do.

Oh and the EA41 has no integrated shelf for the LED. The D40A does. They use a plate instead so contact to the body is not perfect which means it would likely not run as bright for as long as the D40A. They also had issues with the buttons ballooning, and when they fixed it with a MKII, they ignored the flashaholics (I assume you know who Im talking about there) which pissed them off. It was hard to get them to correct the fault in existing units. I much prefer the D40A myself but Ive never had an EA41.

        • expensive collection do you frequent CPF? lol

        • @aussieprepper: I used to. Expensive is partly why its 'used to'. Dont get me started on batteries and chargers.

        • @Tuba: one of us now on BLF? if your on BLF you've probably seen me lol id like to buy a Noctigon Meteor M43… i have the copper x5 and SS x6 they look so nice….i just got a thorefire s70 probably my brightest light

        • @aussieprepper: Havent been back on BLF since the lathe.

        • @Tuba: yep i understand i just bought cometa another BLF light now i have like 40 light i think lol I will finish modding some of my c8s and sell them….

  • Hi.
Was thinking of getting the Nitecore MH20 linked above, but have no idea what battery to get for it (never used an 18650 before). I found this https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10001980/1141104-panason… which has good reviews, but I'm not sure if it's suitable for use in a torch or if it'll fit etc..

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    • +1

hey mate i would say yes mainly because Nitecore only sell protected batteries from what i know. i did search some reviews but i didn't find much info….
The Panasonic batteries should supply enough current to give you 1000 lumen. I am not a big fan of electronic switches they do get issues so keep this in mind!

This guy in his review bought it with a Nitecore 18650 so protected cells fit!

what is strongest torch available to consumer?

    • +1

I am not sure you can buy a lot of very bright lights now days you can get a 4000 lumen torch for a good price that is about 2-3 times brighter then car headlights!

      • That is not enough for my application. I need very strong light for squid search.

        • that is way more then enough power mate people use a few hundred lumen to search for squid it is about the beam pattern.

        • @aussieprepper:
Hi im also interested in some squidding

I've seen people use the led lender m7rx and was impressed. As the beam hit the water and illuminated under the surface really well to help spot the squid deep down.

My p14.2 kind of illuminates the surface in comparison.

I'm thinking about this as the p14.2 uses 4xAA also and I already have a few eneloops.
But the mh20 sounds good also, but the batteries will require another investment in charger and handful of batteries.

Would I be better with this sunwayman or mh20?

      • What's the maximum lumens I could legally import into AU ?
        and what model?

        • What's the obsession with max lumens? A TK75vnQ with a XHP70 LED and DriverVNX2 can do 16,700 lumens. It also costs $650 AUD and is likely impractical for most uses.

        • @ComfortablyNumb: That must be a quad XHP70 torch i couldn't find the full specs on there website… I am thinking of building one for my self…

      • -1

What lumens could bring down an airliner?

        • It depends on throw distance and the angle you use and if it blinds all pilots for long enough without any autopilot assistance
So very unlikely and silly question also

  • Anyone else having issues with the coupon? Doesn't work for me on both my pc and mobile.

    • Code still works for me, I just tested it again on the MH12, and the price is reduced.

    • It starts sunday!

      • At a certain time? Doesnt seem to work for me

  • Thanks for the code, it works with the Nitecore MH12 as well, bringing the price down to USD$50.36, which is cheaper than last time I bought the MH12 during the CNY sale! Yes, I bought another MH12!

    • i was reading your post on the eneloop sale did you hear the new ikea ladda are made in japan apparently by fdk?

  • This seems like a better choice than a bike light? Those stupid USB charged proprietary batteries on bike lights suck versus AA batteries. I assume this torch has a 220 Lumens flashing mode.

  • Whats a good AA torch with a variable power?

I dont need any other modes - actually, cycling through modes truly annoys me. Just a dimming dial would be nice. Doesn't need to be ultra high power or anything.

    • +1

Hey mate ive only ever had one dimming light and it blew up not a fan of them…. Flashing modes are usually in the highest setting. I know crelant use dimming but not on there smaller lights.. I'll see what I can find but it will probably be a no name brand or. ask around.

Actually I lie make that two light my old edc is was a solarstorm 16340 battery light solarstorm sc03 but as with the other light thr switch stuffed up. Some thing about variable current and electronic switches they don't mix

  • Is it active yet?

The code doesnt seem to be working for me for the D40A

    • All good.

Seems its US time so still a few hours away

  • Great deal! Thanks OP! Time to add another SWM to my collection?

  • What's the best biking light to get in this sort of deal ?

I'm after both (a) helmet mountable, and (b) handle bar mountable

    • how much power do you need and run time? how much can you spend?

      • Brighter the better (for trail riding at night), run time 2.5 to 3hrs max.
As for budget, would like to keep it under $60-80AUD each light if possible, though flexible here.

I suppose I could just get a good flashlight and a mount. Would prefer to have an external battery pack which can be charged though, and this takes the weight off the head/bars

        • If you don't mind a headlamp i would suggest a Nitecore HC30 but it uses a lithium ion battery? you can also get mounts for convoy c8 but its not that floody the beam id suggest a wider but shorter beam you will get about 150 meter distance…. i don't know many lights with separate battery packs except for fenix but they are headlamps and not that bright….

  • The code DEALS doesn't seem to work on the Sunwayman anymore.

Still works for the NiteCore EA41 though.

    • the may day deal is the same discount coupon as this one so it should be active again soon

  • Finally arrived.

Cant wait to throw some eneloops in it and see how it performs

  • I received mine today and am not impressed with the quality control. On my unit the switch panel is not attached properly. One side of the switch is raised from the body of the torch while the other is sitting flush. The raised edge is also very rough to the touch which I find very annoying.

I will contact fasttech and report back.

    • My o ring was broken in one section so contacted them too but that's nothing compared to your issues

    • Really thats bad I would contact them straight away.
