More than 1/2 dozen left at George St. Sydney CBD store at lunch time https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/77509/38821/20160421_1…

Model is GE6993. Details at http://search.dicksmith.com.au/search#w=UHD%20TV

I'm intending to use it as computer monitor for occasional gaming as an upgrade in function (could be a downgrade in quality) from the TCL 40" UHD 3D TV I have been happily using at 30Hz.

  • Wouldnt mind one for PC monitor to, My Dicksmiths around me seemed to be shut down! Orwell

  • Can u report back with a review of monitor.

  • OK, sure. Hoping to pick it up this weekend.

  • 30hz at 4k (60hz at 1080p) and a lower colour space than the best panels.

I have one, but have not yet hooked it up to my computer. I'm using it to watch DVD's, since I previously had lots of Dell monitors but no actual TV. The Dells beat it hands down for image quality although they are only 1600x2560, but for the price it's not bad.

    • According to previous posts/specs it is equipped with a HDMI 2.0 port that should enable 4K/UHD/2160p (whatever they want to call it) at 60Hz much better for gaming thought it may be chroma subsampling at 4:2:0 instead of full 4:4:4.

      • I would say that there is not great colour separation between dark colours, although that might just be because I haven't tried to mess with its settings yet.

I'm not sure about the 60hz. My BD player allegedly upscales to 4K, and I do see a touch of flicker. Could be my cable, though. It's the HDMI cable from my Dell 2713. (Could also be that my BluRay player isn't sending content at 60hz. Who knows?)

        • +1

Yeah, the blu-ray is not likely outputting 60Hz because video is not normally that high refresh rate which is better/more for computer output and why I'm trying this cheap TV.

        • @samlor: Good luck…. will be waiting to hear how it goes. My current computer can't push a 4K display, but it would be nice to know how well it works.

  • It seems to work OK as a TV though I only just plugged it in to confirm that function. It turns out I don't have a video card able to output UHD @ 60Hz via HDMI 2.0 but I will confirm/test that resolution once I receive this DisplayPort to HDMI adapter http://www.amazon.com/Club3D-Displayport-1-2-HDMI-CAC-1070/d…. Meanwhile it is working OK for non-gaming use at UHD @ 30Hz and without appreciable mouse lag.
