  • So anyone know what new in the 2016 range of LG and samsung TV'S?

New (k models) series 9 samsung will offer 10bit colour, ie millions of colours to billions of colours, if you have top end media source.

Hmm wonder how much difference my 8-bit suhd tv and the new 10bit suhd TV's have and if i will even be able to tell.

    • The 850T has HDR and dolby vision built in (hence LG are dubbing it "Super UHD". Should be a beautiful looking TV but can't find any reviews yet. Still just an edge-lit LCD though, so the usual screen uniformity issues will be present.

If anyone finds a review, please post link.

Can someone who knows more about TVs enlighten me as to why I would buy the 65" LG over an 'equivelant' SONY that's much cheaper?

Also I really want the 75" version of the SONY but the price difference is huge ($1500 at the moment). Does anyone think it'll go down?

    • I just would not do so.
I thnk that the sony price is a good deal if you are after a 65"…did not really checked all the specs,

      The answer is YOU SHOULDN'T.

The Sony X8500C is an overall superior model than the LG6xx series despite being a year older. It has 4 HDMI 2.0 inputs, 200HZ refresh rate and better colour reproduction. It also plays 23/24 fps video over 60 fps inputs (think of the scenario that you play bluray over a laptop or Android Box etc) with any juddering issue. I personally would call it the OzB 65" 4K TV of the year given that awesome price (ranging from $2100 to $2500).

The only down side I can think of is that when you compare it to the Samsungs, its display is slightly softer. The other thing is that the TV in standby uses 20w which more than my laptop.

      • Glad to hear it, since I got my 55X8500C for $1500 last year (actually on Altitude points, so free!)

      • Awesome, thanks mate. Incidentally where can I get it for $2100?

        • Tough to find it now, $2100 was like 20% off eBay on a $2500 sale. I reckon if you find anything around $2400 mark you should go for it.

      • The other thing is that the TV in standby uses 20w which more than my laptop.

If you wait 10 mins, it goes to "sleep" after which it only uses 0.8W — I measured this with my power meter. I love my KD55X8500C.

It's all about HDR TV'S in 2016 :) So if you want the latest premium picture quality wait for the new Sony, Samsung and these TV'S

      • what would i miss out on if i bought a Sony X8500C today?

      • Are you sure it's not all about VR ?

        • Not yet, maybe 2017 we will hear about it, obviously Sony will be bringing out there VR headset But VR hasn't really influenced TV Models this year at all, as far as I know :)

        • I haven't purchased a large uhd tv because I was hoping to pick up a VR headset at some point in the future, but I could be waiting for a year or longer as you said. :/

      • The X8500Cs already have HDR (sure, the 55" is edge-lit, but the bigger ones are rear.)
Rec. 2020 is probably the main thing missing.

  • I find it amusing that the same people comparing 8bit vs 10bit colour space, HDR and 4K resolution Tvs are using them to watch Netflix, SD free to air and DVDs. The content to really take advantage of these TVs does not even exist in Australia.

    • True, but UHD BR has already been released elsewhere.

    • the content is available to a lot of Aussies, we are often the league leaders in illegal sharing of new tv shows.

  • Is the extra $1000 worth it for 60UH850T.
    200mhz and 5" larger

    • That's either a very slow processor or a very fast refresh rate!

      • opps. lol

        200Hz
