Perth - SOR Mechanic Recommendations

Been looking for an alternative to RAC for awhile. Just want someone honest and reliable (will charge and do only the work that's required and not for a quick sale, know's what they're doing etc.) that can do my reuglar servicing for my honda civic (2009, MY08). I don't have a logbook, but i do have printouts from a honda dealer of what servicing they do at each km interval, however would be good for a mechanic who has the experience and skill to look under the bonnet and troubleshoot himself anyhow.

Any recommendations? Someone you've dealt with for awhile and hold in high esteem? I don't mind franchises, although my hunch is the majority of these may have either a) apprentices working on your cars at times or b) may not be as great quality as i assume most mechanics worth their weight would probably head out to work for themselves? Open to suggestions, preferably Perth SOR. Open for weekends servicing would be preferable.

  • I've had good experience with Distinctive Auto in Myaree. Only did what needed doing, and priced it well :)

Had mates recommend him, and have had him service 3 cars

    • Thanks. Ill add him to the list. Someone else on ozb previously mentioned myaree service centre too which is near there.

At the moment all i have is Ultra Tune on Willeri Drive, as it's near my old place (http://www.ultratunewilleridrive.com.au/) but was thinking non-franchise mechanics might be abit more honest with more skin and reputation in the game?? Could be a false bias though.

HOw much did distinctive auto tend to charge for a regular servicing?

      • Been over a year lol but less than the main ones

And try to avoid the puddles on the way there ;)

        • Yeah, split second stupid decision. Just ran my lungs out so probably lacking air in my brain at the time haha. Saw another car go through so stupidly followed. Learnt the hard way i guess - hopefully nothing wrong. On a positive the engine is still running and moving fine, albeit the physical noise. So if it had taken water in and blown something , my understanding is it would have happened already (i drove home and pumped petrol even on the way, and drove out to the train station this morning, so plenty of driving time for it to have occurred). Hopefully it's something alot minor , Or I might just be overthinking my normal engine noise rotating. Either way i needed a 70,000 servicing anyway as im clocking close to 74k.

P.S. Less then the main ones like who? RAC and other main franchises? Would you be uncomfortable PM'ing or giving aball park figure? I pay usually mid $200's after RAC discount and their voucher discount, for their regular price servicing.

        • @SaberX:

Minor servicing is like $150 from memory. Give him a call, he's fine to quote over the phone. Had him do a timing belt on the Mrs old Liberty, he ordered the water pump, decided it didn't need it, didn't charge for it and send it back to the supplier :)

Yeah I went through a few big ones in 'the great storm of 2010' lol, had traction control light stay on that night, next day was perfectly fine :)
