Hey All, I don't know about you, but i get freaking frustrated with crappy crushers, So here is a chance to blow some cash (yes u can pick up from woolies if you really want; pay for it in frustration) a decent top rated garlic crush. currently on sale at Amazon. I don't know if Amazon store cards are a thing here but u can get some cash off with that.
Currently Comes to AUD 36.00 with Shipping. So not altogether bad for a top rated press from America. (You pay about the same here in Aus for "quality")

Enjoy :)

  • Cheaper than the Tupperware one (which is also awesome) and well worth it if you need to keep Twilight at bay.

  • But Woolworths has a jamie oliver garlic crusher, surely his products are top quality and priced fairly.

    • Yep, worst garlic press ever. Made of plastic and a complete piece of crap.

    • this piece of rubbish failed after the first use lol

An alternative to a garlic crusher is to put the cloves in a jar and shake until the skin comes off

Then take the clove of garlic use a grater or zester

Probably only cost you $10 for a zester - much cheaper

    • I've never had the bowl trick work. God damn lifehack videos lie to me!

Also, microplaning your garlic makes it a lot harsher and more pungent than cutting or crushing it.

      • +1

To be honest, I've never tried the bowl/jar trick either. Quicker to just crush it with a the side of a knife and peel it.

Didn't know that about crushing vs microplaning.

    • I use a Garlic Peeler. Same idea. Only costs $1 or so and you don't get garlic smell on your hands.

There is also a school of though that you don't need to peel the garlic at all and just put it in the crusher with the skin. That works too but I find you get less garlic.

      • Cheers will give it a shot

    • Zester or grater? If you don't mind having the tips of your fingers mixed into your garlic, I guess. Not for me thanks.

      • You're obviously doing it wrong

The IKEA 365+ VĂ„RDEFULL is $6.99 and have been using it for years. Easy to clean as it splits open for easy cleaning.

    EDIT: Discussion here

Just chop it yourself, takes a whole 5 seconds.

    • +1

You know I could be mistaken but I don't think the OP has posted a bargain for a garlic chopper…

  • You don't need these fancy garlic presser set unless you're working in a 5-star restaurant as a chef. Just go buy one stainless steel one for $5 from a $2 shop. It'll last for a lifetime.

    • +2

Surely it should be $2 from the $2 shop, bloody inflation.

      • The $2 one is plastic and $5 is stainless steel. Don't buy the plastic one because it'll break after a few uses.

    • A chef in a five star restaurant, if those actually existed, would use a knife.

And having used everything from $2 shop metal presses to $30 Zyliss aluminium ones (with lifetime warranties), you are dead wrong. They won't last a year, let alone a lifetime.

I'm using one for more than 5 years and still in excellent condition.
