Banggoods forced me to close my PayPal dispute

I received a package with missing goods after waiting 2 months for delivery. Open a PayPal dispute.

Banggoods said it would only refund for the missing item and instructed me to modify my PayPal dispute so that the claim amount is only for the missing item.

Find "change your reason for this dispute" on current PayPal message page and clickChoose "I received item, but it is significantly not as described"Choose detailed reason for your case" the order was incomplete / missing quantities "You can propose a partial refund amount we agreed , and then we will accept the partial refund asap to automatically give your money back immediately via PayPalYou are guaranteed to get your money back quicker than the original PayPal case flow

I willingly did that.

Status: You've changed the dispute reason to Item Not As Described and asked us to decide the outcome of the case.

Then they promised me:

I have arranged to refund you [the cost of missing item], please check your account in 48 hours.

Now Banggoods said they won't refund. The condition for them to refund me is that I close the dispute.

Please close the paypal dispute first and we will refund you [the cost of missing item].

tl,dr
Banggoods: Close your dispute then we refund the money.
Paypal: A case once closed can't be re-opened.
Me: I held onto PayPal, decided not to close the dispute and am waiting for the outcome.

yeah. never do that. refund then close. sounds like you got tricked.

  • I would send the email to PayPal and tell them Banggoods are reneging on their deal to refund. It sounds like PayPal are completely useless. Glad I don't use their services.

    You're a pushover, aren't you?

You did the right thing by opening a PayPal dispute. The dispute details should include the details of the received item and the missing item. You did the wrong thing by later modifying the PayPal dispute.

But it doesn't change the present. The best thing you can do now is to NOT deal with Banggood any further and deal directly with PayPal. You should also forward to PayPal the email from Banggood that suggests you should abandon your PayPal claim, as PayPal strongly discourages this practice. It's probably against PayPal Terms and Conditions as well.

hmm. forcing a person to do something they doesn't want to do with "please"? how does that work?

"this is a bank robbery. please give me all your money or ill shot". that doesn't sound right.

        • "this is a bank robbery. please give me all your money or ill shot".

Maybe he shouldn't be attempting a bank robbery when he's unwell…

Plenty in OzBargain threads prior to indicate that the 'Please close PayPal dispute first', ploy, is a standard response, and not just from Banggood.

As above. Never close until some proper resolution by seller, or PayPal.

Please change title to "I stuffed up by closing a PayPal dispute before receiving the refund".

  • I left a dispute with this request for around two weeks as I thought it was unreasonable. As soon as I closed it the seller refunded. But no guarantee of what they'll do.
I'd say leave it to Paypal to decide.

  • This seems to be normal behavior for Chinese vendors its not just Banggood! they get strikes across there name if it needs to be solved through PayPal. Its up to you in the end if you want to do it? Either way you will get your money back.

Tell them in good faith once the money is in your account you will cancel the PayPal dispute?

  • Please close the paypal dispute first and we will refund you [the cost of missing item].

As soon as a seller says that, they are trying to scam you. I learnt the hard way too. But a credit card charge back is always an option too.

    • As soon as a seller says that, they are trying to scam you.

      i agree with you.

We will arrange a refund and it will process in 5-7 banking days. However in order to do so we will require you to retract the dispute that you have filed.

they keep sending emails outside of pp's dispute process. we told them to use pp for all communications. we never heard from them. pp issued a refund a few weeks later.

  • I feel like banggood has been quite dodgy. Its been over 6 weeks since my powerbanks were shipped and they keep telling me to wait for them to arrive. The tracking number on them hasn't been updated since the 10th of May. I will never buy from Banggood again unless they can resolve this for me.

    • Hi, did you end up receiving the powerbank? I'm in the same situation as you are now.

      • No i didn't. Paypal ended up refunding me as Banggood didn't even reply to the dispute.

Try contact them via their support line if no response go through paypal and get a refund.

  • I've experienced this kind of behaviour from a few Chinese sellers now.
