The band has a built in clock which the alarm operates off (which is why there is a limit of 3 alarms, which is a bit annoying, could they really not fit a few more…), I am fairly sure my v1 band works fine disconnected from my phone.
Notifications won't work without Bluetooth obviously though.
Edit: Just confirmed, alarms work (at least on my band) w/o Bluetooth connected

You are probably using the default alarm of your phone. For alarm of your band to work independently you need to set this alarm up from the Mi Fit app.

It's not really an alarm clock though. Unfortunately it won't vibrate if it loses its bluetooth connection during the night, which happens frequently on mine, so you need an audible alarm on your phone as a backup.
