Hi guys, I want to ask for an opinion on a Reid warranty claim. I purchased the Reid Osprey last October so it has been roughly 6 months and I've been using it to commute regularly to work about 14km total each day. Last week as I was making my regular commute home, there was a loud crack and from then on, my front derailuer was not able to shift.
I used the free servicing that Reid offers and brought the bike into the shop today. Once there, I was told that the problem was because the front deraileur is bent out of place. The guy said he will try to bend it back but otherwise I have to pay for a replacement and additional labour costs for installation. He said that this was not a manufacturing fault so therefore it's not covered under warranty.
So do you guys agree with his statement? I know if I were to purchase a new car and there was an issue with the braking system, it would be covered under warranty but if the brake pads were worn out then that's my fault as it's a consumable. I think this is a manufacturing fault as it failed so soon and it's not considered a consumable. Do I have a leg to stand on to dispute the replacement costs?
Thanks.
Bent derailleur is most likely because it was damaged by being bumped. I'd agree with the store. If its not too bad, they will probably be successful bending it back.
