Hi all. My mum's samsung note 2 finally died. Any recommendations for a similar big screen phone that is around $300 or less?
She prefers to be android since she has just learned how to use it, and has handwriting recognition.
Thanks!
Samsung Note 2 died - what to buy?

hahah how we all posted straight to the link.
That phone in link would be perfect, maybe even order the 16gb version from Aliexpress as it will be cheaper.
does it have handwriting recognition?
Is the xiaomi hard to learn to use for an elderly parent? Or much the same to the note 2? Thanks guys!
From the comments in that thread the Xiaomi uses a modified version of Android that is more akin to iOS.
I would say it will be easier than Android on Samsung.
From an older person's perspective, I found the MIUI more intuitive than both Samsung and HTC.
I received my Redmi Note 2 with a Greek multi-language ROM installed and even though I quite enjoyed it's clean and uncluttered interface, I decided to flash the official global stable ROM for the OTAs. Prior to this, I'd no idea about flashing ROMs!
What makes touchwiz unintuitive?
Am I the only one nervous about trying this Chinese brand? She managed to break two xiaomi fitness bands…
Seems like such great value though
My 72-year-old mother who lives in Singapore has been using her Redmi 2 phone for more than a year and she hasn't had any problems with it. Her previous phone was an LG, by the way.
If she uses the stylus it would be hard to move to something else.
Samsung have nailed the stylus interface and functionality well.
Thanks all just bought a Samsung s5 for $410 including glass screen protector and case
From where may i ask?
Officeworks
Thats one hell of a deal being officeworks has to be Australian stock too.
@Hotkolbas: imo it's just decent. The phones old and was like $397 towards the end of last year.
@skelty: was looking for an s5 for a while but always quoted over 5 and close to 6 hundred…. not a fool but did negotiate with failed attempts.
Still with my note 2 and a refreshed 4.1.1 and so far so good.
but that is a small screen phone and no handwriting that you were asking for. and 50% more expensive.
It passed the mum test. Frankly I was over it by then and was happy to pay
Nice deal where from?
We bought a Sony C4 a few weeks back - $299 it has a 5.5 inch screen. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240289
Nice phone, good screen, and great camera (front even has a flash).
Not available now but you may find one elsewhere.
Newer C5 is 6inch screen.
No hand writing though.Sony software is great to use I find.
