Tried twice to add it to a cart, told me both times it was out of stock.
Only one left in stock, if you order multiple in the quantity section, it won't check through.
WOW! that's 20c cheaper than this one here
you are comparing the wrong version; https://www.shaverhut.com.au/muhle-r41-grande-safety-razor-t…
You're right, my bad
Sincere question: why is this razor so expensive? What's so amazing about it?
It's German. They're regarded as a good company. Although I'd have to say my favourite is a Japanese Feather brand plastic one that sells for around $25 on eBay.
That's what I use. Not worth upgrading?
I would save and get Feathers top of the line all stainless model. All reviews are glowing!
@Risto: some people may say its too mild. maybe thats why feather are so sharp? to compensate for the mild approach on the actual razor, yet give a extremely smooth shave with the blade.
this is oldschool razor type, all metal with single blade each side
you also need:
- shaving brush
- shaving soapAnd a little courage.
hahaha ..but this is less fruity than cut throat razor because
of the roundish metal cover on the top but stil could make a deep cut@medium_tight: once you get the hang of them you'll never cut yourself. I haven't in years now.
I more cautious about safety for others… Which is why I always remove the blade and lock it away when not in use. Just to keep it out of hands of children (or curious guests).
When you look at the cost of blades though, it really is one of the cheapest ways to shave!
I will be stocking cutthroats soon. I love them but even as a seasoned user they make me a bit nervous. When I decide to grow a beard out, I like using a cutthroat to style and shape the beard.
I always say that wet shaving with straight/safety razors are like driving a manual car. Sure you can get the job done fine with an auto…. But if you want to have fun while you do it… Manuals the way to go!
I use a Muhle R89 and since changing to the double edged razor, funny as it sounds, shaving has actually become enjoyable rather than a chore.
Preparing your face, getting the shaving soap lathered up and applied using your nice shaving brush, the sound and feel of a smooth cut from the razor but best of all it's telling your partner to bugger off as it is my turn to hog the bathroom! It takes a little bit of time and practice to get the hang of using one but after using it I won't be going back to those multi blade disposable razors.
What do you when you wake up late!
Don't wake up late :p
Couldn't agree more. It's like a morning meditation.
Nothing relaxes you in the morning and grounds you for a hard day quite like a wet shave. Something about the weight of the razor, the quality and the feel of it gliding over your skin just can't be beat.
A decent shaving cream improves the experience too. I love the MUHLE sandalwood. Really has a nice scent to it and really relaxing. Something you can't get from that cream in a can stuff.
Cool. Thankyou .
what blades do people recommend for these? (I'm talking 100pack of blades imported and inexpensive -ozbargain style)
Merkurs are definately the best but they are ~$80 for 100

Best bet is to try a sampler the sample kit is like ~$20 but will last you about 3 months
http://www.mensbiz.com.au/shaving/blades/double-edge-blade-s…
Feathers are the worst, they are from japan I think and they will tear your face up way too sharp..
I use the personna's they are reasonable priced and feel good to use
Feathers are amazing blades. Not sure how you are using them, but I haven't cut myself a single time in almost 15 years.
depends on what blade works for you. different faces, different blades. even different handles dictate what blades may work or not work for you.
i personally prefer feather in my fatboy gillette
Best to buy sample packs and see for yourself. My experience is that some blades work better on different razors.
Feather is the best there is for me. Last longer and are so sharp. I can also highly recommend Astra as a cheaper alternative. Not as sharp as feather, but very smooth. I have some Teflon coated Russian ones that are on par with the Astra, but can't remember the name right now.
I'd be happy with a lifetime of feather brand. I was given a merkur blade with my Razer and it was terrible. Opinions vary. Try them yourself. Astra's at around $10 are a no brainer.
There's no best blade. Read up on different properties of the different blades and order a sample pack of the blades you think you'll like.
Don't cheap out on blades unless you've got particularly tough skin.
There really is no best blade. It all comes down to preference. On the store we sell the MUHLE blades and the Bluebeards revenge blades for 4.50 (10 pack). Different blades will give a different experience.
I started with Astra blades and they're still one of the best cheaper blades around. Now I use either MUHLE or feather. If you're really nerdy about shaving (puts hand up) then you can have different razors/blades for different performance depending what you're after.
If I'm on holiday somewhere, I'll use a MUHLE r101 razor handle with Astra blades… Simply because I'm not too fussed about using the best razor/blade combination when out and about. Either way, I've always gotten a better shave with less skin irritation (I have psoriasis) with double edge safety razors.
As others have mentioned try the sample packs and see what you like. Each brand of blade has a different feel.
Currently use Astra platinum as a daily and if I leave it a few days I go for the extra sharpness of the feather blades.

And if you need a budget DE travel razor for out bush, or whatever, http://www.bestshave.net/safety-razor-c-7.html
All MUHLE R41 Grande safety sold out! Plenty more discounted Safety Razors at www.shaverave.com.au
They're all free shipping and literally the cheapest in Australia
No $20-30 beginner kits… My suggestion is you should make some, I want to try a double edge but I wont pop $100 into something im not sure ill like. Anyway ill stick with my aldi razor for now I guess.
Won't take you long to spend $100 on cartridges. Buy a decent razor to try it out. You won't give up the brush and cream even if you go back to disposables do you haven't lost out there.
I'd recommend an adjustable to start with until you work out what you like.
Do you have any suggestions? Its all abit alien to me atm
I had no idea before I started either…went with a Merkur Progress ($80 at the time) as my first razor and still using it today…along with a couple of others :)
FWIW I use Feathers and don't have any issues with them. Generally get around 3 shaves out of a blade.
Loving my Muhle D89 razor. Definitely worth the money I paid, so these should be no different!
www.tryablade.com is also great for testing blades!
You've got to be joking right?
There's one born every minute…..
These are just some of the things you'll need to put in the title there.
