Are these certified for use in Australia?

    • +2

Absolutely not. And could never be certified (they are 100% non-compliant).

  • +4

Brilliant product. The only complain is the power plug upside down for OZ wall plate.

    • +2

great product, the power plug shits me also.

      • +2

Even that the quality still beat anything about $50-60 we could find locally.

    • Can't you just turn it upside down?

  • +1

Regardless of compliance, this item is suspiciously cheap. It's almost half the price of banggood.

    • +2

It cost less than RMB50 in China, which is less than AUD10. The margin is still there.

      • Fingers crossed I can find some in guangzhou when im there in June. Will be stocking on a couple of xiaomi products.

    • But if you buy it from there, it will bang you up pretty good.

  • +2

The last time this was posted it didn't end well.
Personally I do not think a powerboard like this is safe, especially if the board itself needs to be hooked up to a travel adapter. Apparently they provide one, so count on one of those grey ones which is very loose fitting on both ends.

    • +3

As I said earlier, at least for all 4 I've own there is no need for a adapter, only the cable on the plug is upside down.

    • The non compliance is due to holes sizes causing a large enough hole to be unsafe … the standard restricts hole sizes so people can't put objects in …..dumb adults and kid …….you won't get one tagged and tested for office use.

    • This comment needs more upvotes.

  • I bought 6 of these some time ago, they are very handy.

I think I paid around $15 each at the time. Mine came with Aus plug (not an adapter).

    • this model power board only comes with oz plug

      • There are plenty of variants with US plugs. Is it specified for this one? Didn't see in the description.

I just checked. My order was also at Banggood but they are now charging well over double what i paid!

        • show me a xiaomi power board same as listed with us plug

  • +1

Just ensure that they come with a chinese plug which is like an inverted australian plug and fits somewhat ok without needing an adapter. This item has been very useful to me .

The 3 usb sockets enable me to charge multiple devices at the same time and the power strip enables me to connect devices which come with a euro plug and US plug as well.

For example i bought a Maha Powerex MH-C9000 for charging my eneloops etc which came with a Euro plug. No problem since i had the xiaomi powerstrip. No adapter required.

I got a LG G4 recently from Kogan which came with a US plug charger.Again no problem since the xiaomi power strip easily accomodates US plugs as well.

    • Can you elaborate on the "somewhat ok"? Because I have had my circuit breakers trip because of a plug fitting "somewhat ok". A pin which makes occasional contact is more dangerous than one which makes no contact at all.
The Chinese plugs (upside-down) have less thick pins than Australian ones, which is why the travel adapters fit so incredibly poorly (they practically fall out of the socket because the pins are too skinny).

      • What i mean is its not a tight fit as in the case of an australian plug and its inverted so the cable will impede direct access to the switch on the wall. But you have a switch on the powerstrip anyway.

But i tested it now by trying to move it around on the wall socket and its not wobbly or anything.I have been using it for nearly a year and am pleased with it.

        • I guess what he means by "somewhat ok" it comes with the Chinese plug which is upside down of Aussie so your cable has to take a bit of bend, that's all. Not a biggie IMHO.

  • I have 4 of these around the house and they are great. Having 3 USB ports is the most convenient feature.

It's been inherently designed with an Aussie plug which is great. Agreed it doesn't have insulation over its plug pins but that hardly matters because once it's plugged in on the wall socket, I hardly ever unplug it.

    • Like I mentioned above, has anyone confirmed this particular one actually comes with an au plug?

    • But others are saying it's an upside down Aussie plug… Which means it's a Chinese plug.

      Which is it?

      • Only on the ones they have bought in the past. No guarantee this is the same.

Mine (from Banggood) came with the same au plug but just google "xiaomi power strip USB" and you will find plenty that are supplied with adapters.

      • It only comes with one type of plug and that is a Chinese plug (inverted Aussie). Sorry I referred to it as 'Aussie' plug in my comment above but in reality it is Chinese plug which perfectly fits in the Aussie GPOs but cable is a 'top entry' so makes a loop above the plug.

        Hope that clarifies.

        • I was thinking about that, i think the top entry makes it more appealing for me. most of my GPO are located close to the floor, and i reckon, ill have this on my desk, which means that the cable will point straight up towards my desk

        • @t25: Yes, perfect for your case.

  • I've got this which only has Australian sockets and has less ports, but I find the size very useful for travelling.

Can prob find it cheaper than the link, didn't look around

    • +3

Jackson? Xiaomi one is miles better quality.

      • Taken mine on multiple extensive trips- it's been battered but still holding strong. As mentioned, it's more travel friendly than the Xiaomi. Correctly aligned plug too

  • Hey all,

I've got one of these so hopefully I can clarify people's questions.

The plug is Chinese which just happens to be almost identical to ours. The only differences are that their pins are thinner (slightly but still fits tightly into our sockets), it's upside-down (not a major issue) and the pins aren't insulated like our standards require.

As such, it won't meet our standards but will work fine.

Quality is fantastic with a tight grip on everything I've plugged into it and it's far safer than cheap travel adapters which tend to grip plugs poorly.

Okay this is my last post as I feel like I'm wasting my time. This power strip can be bought with different power plugs. Regardless of what people here have received in the past.

Unless the OP confirms categorically that this comes with the chinese (aka "AU upside-down") plug then I would be assuming it is a USA plug with an adapter. As per the last time they posted this deal:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/191873

      Quotes from that thread:

"We provide AU adapter for free."

      and

"US plug, so need adapter" - "yes, but we will provide the adapter for free."

      • their Q&A section has the following

        By Cesar Dec-14/2015 02:12:52
Inquiry : Do these strips only have UK/Australian sockets? I need one with US sockets, are these type available?
Reply : Hi Cesar, We only have the Australian sockets.

        • If the pins are American then give them a slight twist

        • @altomic: Don't do that. No really. Don't. Just get a $1 adapter.

      • That's just the rep misunderstanding. I asked a Xiaomi employee and she said it comes with the CN (Upside down AU) plug only.

I've also seen the same in the wild and plenty of Chinese news/review websites including Xiaomi's official store ;)

        • @gadgetguy: How about a US plug?

        • @Clear:

It clearly doesn't "comes with the CN (Upside down AU) plug only." I'm not spending any more time on this.

        • +2

@gadgetguy: I have found no such thing so it probably doesn't exist since both CN and US are used in China grumpy.

        • @gadgetguy: I have bought a lot of these for family and friends from all sorts of these Chinese websites e.g. Gearbest, Everybuying etc and all of them came with the Chinese (inverted AU) plugs. That link that you posted seems a bit suss to me.

Teardown testing of the Xiaomi power strip……

    http://lygte-info.dk/review/USBpower%20Xiaomi%203%20USB%20Po…

Also the official website suggests it can handle up to 250 Volts

  • If it's not certified is it still legal for use? Will customs not like what they see if they inspect it?

Can it accept plugs that look like this: - -

    or

    . .

    ?

    • Customs have better things to do unless it's a commercial qty. Legal correct use ….because you are we question it means you know the answer … and it's only an issue in the event of an insurance claim as then it's not an accident it's negligence.
