  • Very tempting upgrade for my 3 old Microserver N36L servers.

  • +1

Thanks! got one …. I have an aging fleet of N36L's that are throwing their 2TB disks slowly. I had actually just bought/built an i7 box to replace a few of them about a week ago but this was too good to pass up! :)

I will end up with a xeon and 32gb of ram in this one at some point.

Thanks OzBargain for destroying my wallet time and time again.

  • Worth it for an upgrade for an N54? I can't stream plex fully right now and that would be my goal. Currently flawless with Kodi over lan though.

    • I gave up on plex and transcoding on any microserver. (n36l or gen8)
Now I just use my main pc (i7) as the plex server and microserver for storage and cctv.

Save your money if that is the only reason you need to upgrade.

      • Fair enough. I'm having better success with Emby off the N54 right now anyway. Thought the extra power might help some higher bitrate content.

      • odd my gen8 transcodes with absolutely no issues at all, running a hypervisor under Linux assigned only 2 cores and 2GB of ram.
its also running 2 instances of windows (+SQL server) and another one of Linux (no GUI)

        ..

        ..

        although that said…

        ..

        xeon e3 1270 v2

        • Awww rub it in why don't ya.

        • @shane_au:

sorry, I didn't mean to brag, I just meant to say if your not running a hypervisor, and have all CPUs assigned to your VM, I would have thought the standard CPU should be able to transcode no problems… that said… windows?

        • @wisc: He who spends has the right to brag :)
I have some hefty mkv rips that flattened both cpu's.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one to replace my microserver.

Anyone know which generation microserver I have? It's got the amd turdion 1.2ghz cpu, 1gb ram and came with a 250gb hdd? It was the first generation to be released, but gen 1 microserver doesn't bring up anything relevant on Google.

      N36L was the first model.

      • Thanks. That's it.

  • I cant seem to register to create an account on the pclan site anyone else ?
Also what is shipping charge on there site ?

  • Ordered this to replace my old N40L

  • Ended up purchasing this as a server for the home office. So nice and tax deductible for the wife…

Any suggestions on what to buy to upgrade this to 8 or 16GB of RAM?

  • I went through the Paypal checkout got an error and then a email from paypal saying "You submitted an order amounting to $203.95 AUD to PC LAN Pty Ltd
Your account will be charged when PC LAN Pty Ltd processes your payment. You may receive further emails when they do"

Am i all good or should i contact them?

  • Umming and Arrring over this vs the Gen8 Microserver… I don't need the extra room but I do want to put a GPU in it to make Plex Media box (not just server)

    • Also noticed this version with the low-power quad-core Xeon instead for $425 + shipping at Newegg

      • Out of stock.

        • Yeh but it'll be back hopefully - I can wait.

        • @yanman:

Might be worth a shot, but you know this is a stock runout of an old model, right ? I wouldn't hold your breath.

  • Just a heads up guys - I received all 3 of mine quite quickly, but when I looked up their warranty details HP had listed the warranty expiring in mid july. I've had to log a case with them to get this updated and provide proof of purchase, might be worth checking if yours are also affected.

  • I've had that happen with hp printers in the past. All you need is proof of purchase (tax invoice) and they cover it..
