  • I like this a lot but isn't this a regular price now?

I bought a bunch ~6 months ago as it was rare to be released but now they seem to be regularly stocked.

    • I was looking at the other stores and they are all selling $79 upwards.

I remember buying my bottle at $69 when they first re-released it but then it went up after that to the $80 mark. shrugs

  • I thought that green label was no longer available? Obviously im wrong

    • +1

They stopped producing a few years back then decided to do a one off special edition of it last year. Due to the overwhelming requests, they decided to make more…read somewhere it might be permanently back now - not too sure if that is right though.

  • $70 @ BWS too.

  • It's 65 at Costco

  • I never got the appeal of this.

If you want to drink Talisker or Caol Ila, you can buy them. For real! In a store and everything!

You can even buy Cragganmore (but you probably shouldn't).

Anyways, this is always $69.95 at Nicks.

    • Maybe so, but can you get 15yo versions of any of these for $70 a bottle? More like double that. As a blended malt whisky (and one of the few decent mass-produced ones with an age statement), this is about as close as you'll get for the price.

      • -1

But you aren't getting a 15yo version. You are getting a quarter bottle of a 15yo version, plus 3/4 of a bottle of other stuff.

So, can you get a quarter bottle of Talisker 18 for $70? A full bottle is only $165.

Meh. It's the age old argument about whether or not it's worth buying expensive (read: limited component) blendeds.

        • +2

If a scotch has an age statement on it, that is the age of the youngest whisky. So you ARE getting a 15yo version, at least. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_whisky#Blended_malt

And yes, YMMV for blended whiskies. For some they serve a purpose, but I find the value/quality proposition with JWG and its components good enough for it to be taken seriously.

  • Can anyone comment on the peat and smokiness of this whisky?

How does it compare to the Laphroaig?

    • +3

The peat here is a kiss on the cheek compared to Laphroiag's tongue down your throat.

    • The peat in this is not very noticeable compared to Laphroaig.

Laphroaig doesn't really taste of smokiness imo…more just the peat.

  • Echo the other comments - is green label now back for good? I remember enjoying it but never getting a bottle - how much did green label used to go for back many years ago when it was a staple colour in the line? is the $69.95 currently jacked up or has this been the price historically in the past as well?

speaking of age i've been trying to find a 21 year old glendronach for awhile , great stuff!

    • Seems to be back for good. Normal price is around $80, but seems like other people been posting that they can get it at Costco or BWS for same or cheaper price. Too bad no Costco in WA, else that would be a good buy for me

      • same, in wa but how about BWS? found them for cheaper than $69 yet?

THey are still 15 yo aged malts at a minimum? And how about the taste, anyone who regularly drank an older bottle throughout the last decade find a taste difference to the green labels being reproduced now? Just worried the malts have changed and/or the blends taste.

        • Think in WA Dan Murphys will be the cheapest.

I have only tried the old green label twice so I can't really say if its the same but I think green label now is heavier on the palate and abit sweeter. Fans of the old green label have said they didnt like it due to it being too sweet. I kinda like this new one abit more tbh.

        • @sky152:

Ahhh drats. Makes me worried then about buying before trying. I used to have the 15 year old glendronach flora and fauna at helveticas in perth whenever we'd go there for a drink. One day it was changed to 15 yr old "some other name" and it tasted so much sweeter and harder to drink:(

  • reckon we can use the cash rewards to order this online for the 10% cashback? Notsure if dan murphys does instore freee collection or free shipping costs otherwise?

    • Yes cash rewards will be fine. Think it's only 5% for spirits though. You can do a click & collect. Usually takes about 2 hours to get your order ready for pickup.

      • Aww, discrimination! haha. well 5% is still a good $65 or so after the discount. To be a member to access the deal can you just create a new account online for free?

Wonder if there's any other offers, sometimes amex does the dan murphys cash back, would be great if they came out with one now.

        • Yea you can just sign up for a new account to get access to the deal.

  • Can buy the 5% off wish gift card from cashrewards and combine with their 5% dan murphys cash back on spirits to get 10% off the purchase price.

that's generally what i do when my amex cards don't have some statement credits available.

    • What are the wish gift cards by cash rewards? Are they valid for any of the stores listes on their site?

So i take it you can buy and use them instantly, and they still stack with the cashback if you go through cash rewards essentially?

  • $62 a bottle now with Dan Murphy's membership.
