Target - $49 2 Channel Soundar with Bluetooth, FM Radio and Optical in - Instore Only

180

Was in store today and saw Target had stock back in of their $99 2 channel Soundbar reduced to $79 on the shelf price. Brought the unit to the till to find it rung up as $49. After running out of the store I see on their website the official price is indeed $49, that's $50 off the original sticker price and an absolute bargain if like me you have a cheap LCD for the kids and the inbuilt TV speakers are terrible.

This comes with all my requirements of Bluetooth to pair an iPad for music and Optical in from the TV.

In store availability only. Plenty in Castle Plaza (SA).

  • Is it any good?

Only got it today, wont get to try it out until tomorrow night but for $49 its the cheapest Soundbar I've ever seen and I'm betting it will be miles better than the sound coming out of my Soniq LCD.

Edit - Just found a previous deal where there are comments on its performance.

        I present you https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233322

I have one and it works great in the bedroom. The sound plate is also good. :p

      • Hi,

Does this sound bar comes with RCA to Stereo 3.5mm cable??

Thinking of getting this sound bar along with Target Platinum 48" TV from castle plaza store tomorrow.

As per the description the Soundbar has 3.5mm in and optical in. Where else the target TV has RCA out and no optical out.

        • +1

Nope, just a 3.5mm Jack to to Jack cable. You can buy a RCA to 3.5mm in most stores should work fine.

        • @reslo: true.. Castle plaza has 20+ in stock and they said it's discontinued product now but happy to sell. How is the audio in terms of bass and treble response ? is there a lag when connected to tv (as someone mentioned in this feed)?

Any feature that is not working or any issues that you may encountered?

        • +1

I'm super impressed (for the price). I've got it connected to an Optical feed and there are no issues whatsoever. Bass is good at low volumes but pump it up (via my ipad on Bluetooth for example) and it fades quick. To be fair it gives as good as the price warrants. The kids are super impressed and loving it. If there are some still around the Plaza I may just pick one up as a spare.

        • @reslo: sweet… Hope this 50w speaker is loud enough and doesn't distort on high volume.. For this price can't complain, I'll grab it this weekend. But i wasn't happy about the target platinum hd 40" tv display which wasn't sharp at all and doesn't have optical out.

Now Looking for a cheap lcd tv 40" fhd with optical out under $350

5 reviews on the website and people generally happy with value for money

But… can it say the letter B?

So I bought one of these.
    - Sound quality is better than the TV although still not great. There was a small sound delay while using my TVs 9mm out into the speakers - this was annoying enough to not use it like this.
    - Remote is really crap. Small, cheap feeling and have to play with angles to get it to work.
    - Optical in was DOA on my unit. This is the main reason I returned it for a refund.

    • Remote is really crap. Small, cheap feeling and have to play with angles to get it to work.

"You don't have to be Pythagoras to use this remote, but it helps!"

    • Having used it for a while now I agree, the remote is not great. All the functions are easily reached on the side buttons though. Optical didn't work for me 1st up, turns out I had the wrong setting on my TV to output via Optical. Once I played with that it worked.

      • do you notice any sound delay from tv?
i definitely have alittle with both rca and opticalnfrom tv to the soundbar

        • Nope, all good for me.

  • Bought this $49 soundbar along with Target Platinum 48" TV $399 from marion SA.

I am surprised and honestly quite impressed with this soundbar for what I paid. There is no lag connected to tv via 3.5mm line cable as my tv doesn't have optical out.

Sound bar doesn't distort on high volume and has decent bass on lower volume and treble response is even throughout but bass reduces on higher volume. The remote works fine and three quick convenient modes music, movies and voice. All the function like bluetooth & FM works flawlessly atleast my unit. Haven't checked optical yet.

The only con is loud static noise via 3.5mm when I turn off the tv via remote not the main power.

If you want a cheap soundbar to avoid disappointment of the on board tv speakers get this.

It's a joy to watch TV shows and movies, listen music conveniently via FM or bluetooth.

    • Good to hear you have a positive experience with it.
Agree with anoying static sound when tv is off.

May have to return mine for another to see if the lag is still there

      • Yeah.. I Wasn't expecting much out of this cheap soundbar but glad to get a good surprise. Good thing I tested mine before via bluetooth and provided 3.5mm cable with my phone playing youtube video to see any lag. With static noise it's good in a way as it reminds me to put the main off. Also I velcro this tiny remote at the back of my tv remote, it's a pain to find it at times!

Target staff did mention it's a discontinued product out on clearance sale and had few returns.

        • So you don't get any sound delay with free to air tv?
I've found that fta gives me the delay but no delay when watching something like netflix via hdmi.

Might try the 3.5mm myself before taking it back and trying another.
          Thanks for the info

        • @splats: no lag at all through the 3.5mm line. I haven't tried the rca or optical yet, as I don't need it.

        • @Rsg: tried the 3.5 and found that only sound came out of the soundbar and not the tv speakers AND soundbar at the same time so can't tell if there is a delay with the 3.5mm.

Ah well, might take it back and try something else.

        • @splats: yeah true, in my case it's far better than tv's tinny speakers so i don't mind it. I think next one up is the again Thomson 2.0 for $79 in target but output is 2x15w rms compared to $49 50W rms and no FM.

The $79 soundbar is quite slim and has metallic finish not sure on sound quality. Let us know your experience if you try this model.

Update: FM on soundbar sometimes get distorted, not sure could be aerial issue.

        • I found the fm to be pretty ordinary. Only picked up about 5 stations at best.
          @Rsg:

        • @splats: i realized there is an antenna wire at the back of soundbar. Just moving around made significant diff and am getting around 6-7 channels. some fm channels still has slight distortion. Anyways i mainly use pandora through my phone so fm is just bonus

  • I got a display one for $7. Different model though, RRP$139. Thanks OP.

    • cool .. it's a steal!

      • Thanks. Do you know if the soundbar can be controlled with a mobile phone app? My LG mobile remote control app works for the tv in the room, but not the soundbar. I feel like the remote control is so small, I'm going to lose it any time.

        • Unfortunately no as it doesn't have IR or any specific bluetooth app.

I used velcro and sticked it at the back of my tv remote. Loosing n finding this tiny remote will is a pain.
