Anyone Interested in The HTC 10?

I think HTC ABSOLUTELY knocked it out of the park, and crafted the almost perfect smartphone. If it had an OLED display, and stereo front facing speakers (though their solution with the front and bottom is ingenious for smaller bezels), I would surely sell my Nexus 6P and switch.

The design is gorgeous, the cameras rock, the display is great, the speakers are great, the headphone output is great, it has USB Type C (and 3.0, a first for a USB-C Android phone), Quickcharge 3.0 (with the adapter included this time) and a LIGHTNING fast fingerprint scanner.

There's a bunch more, and I'll edit this post, but I'm out of time, so I'll ask this. Anyone interested in getting one? Tell us your thoughts! :P

  • I already have the s6 edge but damn HTC making it hard not to get the HTC 10.

    • I would have a hard time giving up the curved OLED display if I were you, personally

while the display is amazing on the s6 the curved i could easily give up.

HTC's software is so much better then samsungs though.

  • Looks nice. More interested in the LG G5 though.

every review video ive seen shows the G5 with huge quality control problems and lot of light bleed as well.

      • Isn't the light bleed to be expected from IPS screens?

        • No this has absolutely major light bleed. You don't really find it on flagship LCD-based phones.

    • Me too, looks nice as well IMO. Though I'm not so sure about the LG skin though. Is it really heavy when compared to stock and sony's skin?

      • It's very heavy, can't even compare to Sony's. It's as heavy as Samsung's Touchwiz.

        • haha that was the reason I moved from sammy to sony… now I don't know what to get for a new phone lol

        • @ProjectZero: What phone you using now? Miss my old Xperia Z2 :P

        • @deanylev: Z3, just got it back from the shops. Screen wasn't responding before and went all screwy (looks like very colour static on the screen)

I had nothing but praise for the phone but that screen thing seems to be a common problem =\

Also, not enough storage… 16GB is not enough for me

    • Really? It has so many major issues, but that modularity sure does look promising

Not a fan of htc since they where caught out on data logging everything you do and sent unsecured info to their servers many many years ago.

But now comparing the pair and s7 and the htc 10 I dont see any better spec than an s7 camera wise.

Good to see that they are going to make quality headsets and built in speakers.

any better spec than an s7 camera wise

It's interesting to know that people still care so much about specs, you'd probably love Z5's 23mp camera…

Sensor size though the 10 is still bigger than the S7, but whether it means better pics we don't know yet.
DxOmark has reviewed the 10's camera and it's tied with the S7 (No.1): http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles

      • DxOmark ratings mean ABSOLUTELY nothing. They rated the Z5 as the highest, and that camera was a complete mess. Here's a good article on how DxOmark works http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/03/23/maybe-its-time-to-st…

      • Actually id prefer the nokia 808.

But looking at the camera specs is looking at the camera specs and I dont just look at just the MP theres a lot more to it.

    • Camera specs mean almost nothing, but even in that regard you're wrong. The HTC 10, like the Nexus 6P and 5X, use the IMX377, a 1/2.3" sensor with 1.55 micron pixels. The S7 uses a 1/2.5" sensor with 1.4 micron pixels.

    • The BoomSound speakers are much better.

    the almost perfect smartphone
ABSOLUTELY nailed it out of the park

    etc etc

I predict a long career in journalism for you.

  • But HTC has been making beautiful handsets for years. Somehow they just don't sell. Not sure how HTC 10 is going to be different.

The One M7 sold well and carried their revenue numbers for a while. The M8 sold reasonably, but they gave M7 owners little reason to upgrade.

The M9 sold terribly and so it should've. They still gave M7 owners zero reason to upgrade, 2 generations later. You can't just do incremental h/w upgrades with phones when the competition is so fiercely pumping out features and gimmicks.

The 10 looks like a return to form, just depends if they're going to go "all or nothing" and market the hell out of it, because outside of techies, if you don't heavily advertise it (and it's "killer feature") the masses won't take to it.

I hope it does well, I've had 3 HTC devices (stopped after the M7) and they were all great.

    • Basically what the-mat said. They've always had major flaws, mainly the camera, which is important to people. They're also marketed terribly.

What's more, is phone companies just aren't allowed to do 2 minor revisions in a row. The M8 was like an M7S, so the M9 was like an M7SS, and since they all looked very similar, it gave people little reason to ever upgrade, and many HTC owners started switching away.

  • I'll wait for reviews before deciding if my One M8 has finally found a worthy replacement. I'm not down with being an early adopter. That never ends well.

    • +1

As long as you won't miss the front facing stereo speakers (though the replacement looks promising), I think it'd a very worth replacement. Though in saying that, the M8 is still great, even today.

  • Looked pretty promising in this impressions video. Only downside from last year is the lack of front facing speakers although they made up for it using some other trick which doesn't seem to be as good. Plus, I personally dislike the audio/headphone jack at the top of the phone. Having it right at the top in the middle makes me think the wire will keep getting in the way. I would have to check it out in store to see how it effects phone usage but it's potentially a deal breaker for me if the wires keep resting on the screen.

  • I'd buy it if it was 5.5 screen however I still got my eye on either the newly announced P 9 Plus or the Nexus 6p.

According to reddit the warranty in the US covers unlocking the bootloader! I think I'll be buying one when the price is right.

  • Have you actually held and used the phone out of curiosity ?

    • Nope, only tech publications have, but I'm making 'educated judgments'.

  • +1

Yeah! I reckon it'll be the best phone of 2016! Looks very promising and from the looks of it, it's subjectively better than GS7 Edge

  • +1

I know this topic is a little old but I will throw my bit in anyway: when I upgrade my phone later this year (Galaxy S4/Cyanogenmod) I will almost certainly be buying an HTC 10.
