Brisbane -Kedron, all utilities

Hi everyone,

I moved to Brisbane about a year ago and now is the time to rent my own unit, following the numeral visits, I am now at a stage where I need to make home a bit more than just 4 walls. The community really helped me to buy SD cards by dozen, hard drives to put all my ´´legal'´ movie collection or more lately a new chromecast, that's why I would love some help to find out how not to get my hard earned money fall victim to some greedy companies.

On your good advices, I'm pondering if you had any recommendation for electricity, water, gas and internet suppliers. I went to look on my own and the exercise is more than confusing, it's like finding the way out of a maze blinfolded and tied up. The comparators just want our details to, I suppose, sell it to their affiliates, I couldn't find a clear list of who does what and where. To top up it up, the clauses are a pain to read for a frenchie as myself. I did try to find a similar topic but I understand that depeding on you location it can change everything.

So if anyone lives in Brisbane, did the prior research or just is happy with what you have, please give me a sign!

Thank you!

  • look up the Qld Gov comparative site, not ones like Compare The Market.

You don't get any choice in water supplier.

For electricity try Click Energy or Dodo.

    Will your unit have gas?

For internet I use Exetel and it's only $40 a month with line rental for a 50GB plan with no charge for excess downloads. I just go over 50GB and it's still always fast enough to stream video.

How can you get that Exetel plan/service? Looks like $49.99/mth incl. line rental for 100GB according to http://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/adsl-bundled(exetel.com.au)

Ah okay. I guess their price has gone up.

    • Thanks for the advice.

After further research I found :

For Adsl speed simulation — https://www.mybroadband.communications.gov.au/
      For energy utilities — https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/
Apparently we have no say in how we get water, we get fed the bill and we have to pay, lucky that in my rent clause I wouldn't have to pay water.

So after browsing it through, As all companies have very similar prices I think I'll go for Australia Energy. They give $50 off from the first bill, 12% off if I pay on time and have a slightly less penalties clauses than others.

Concerning ISP, I can't have NBN and cable is expensive. I'll settle for TPG unlimited for $69 as it's pretty cheap.

Now I need to find a modem as I read TPG's modem would be more appropriate as a frizbee.

Please feel free to contradict or advise me if you think there.s better way to do!
