BMW 5 series vs Grand Cherokee Overland

What's the general consensus
$60k budget

Criteria:
Must be a big car
Full of tech

Only few cars in this budget I see are
2015 Grand Cherokee Overland DIESEL
BMW 3 and 5 series 2013 onwards
Audi A6 2012 onwards
BMW X5 2013 onwards

Realistic Dream car Landrcusier Sahara (as we may be able to afford one day)
Actual dream car Lexus 570
Actual actual dream car G WAGON :D

My preference so far is Overland 2015 since it's the only car in my budget that fits my criteria of being big and boss af

Used cars obviously - brand new never again :/

Please don't suggest Mazda CX-5, Atenza, Hyundai, Kia, RAV4, Prado, Patrol

Can't recommend the Grand Cherokee Overland enough. Such an underrated car that has unfortunately been plagued with some bad press as of late, however the large majority are problem-free. Being based on the W166 Mercedes (GLE) ML-Class it has a nice riding chassis (the ride is of course helped by the air-suspension also) and is a really smooth, beautiful car to drive. I would go for the diesel if it was me buying an Overland, but truly I would try and stretch for an SRT (especially if you plan to not venture off-road) All in all you won't be disappointed with a GC.

  • Grand Cherokee Overland is an excellent car and packed with value but you better hope you get a good one because if you get a lemon, Jeep are a nightmare to deal with. I still wouldn't spend so much on a car though unless I was retired and driving around Australia.

You could try buying a more sensibly priced vehicle & put the excess money back into that home loan you discussed here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/241587

Might save you having to mooch off your parents…

Almost 18 months ago, similar question?

OP, you actually close to buying, or is this just another hypothetical?

      • We bought the atenza 6 2012 though not 13 in sep 15. This post is for dad.

          This post is for dad.

Is that difficult to write in your OP, rather than 'mine', 'my' etc? Let people know their questions won't be answered straight away?

What does your dad like/want? What does he like about the cars you've highlighted?

Is the car just being used around town? Towing? Any off-road work at all?

Go with your gut. Problem with asking everyone is that everyone else will have a different preference

It almost sounds like you've made up your mind already!
