Saw quite a few people walking around shopping centre with whole melon so I decided to check them out at Aldi and found this. Plenty this morning, look very fresh. The gamble with Aldi melon is you can't really tell if they're sweet or thin skin, but for 49c a kilo it worths the risk.

just cut it and this one got quite a lot of white large seeds in it, could've brought it back and demand a refund ;). Agreed that seeded one is much sweeter but having to spit them out is pain, I'd rather trade off some sweetness for that.
lol. That'd raise a few laughs to return the melon … in pieces. Wonder if it's ever been done ?
Yeah, you're right. Probably personal preference re: seeded or non-seeded. My wife hates the seeded, but I like them (for the sweetness).
I wish I could up vote this more. I don't like the taste or texture of the seedless variety.
I think you misunderstand. The one at Aldi is the seedless variety. It just has some underdeveloped seeds as a lot of seedless do.
I meant I wish I could up vote your comment more :-)
@Flying Ace:
Oops ! :)Yeah, I suffer with the seedless - no other variety in my country town. But they are really are a poor 2nd.
Probably kids growing up now only knowing the seedless varieties and not knowing how sweeter the melons should be.
Same price at Edgewater, Maribyrnong store as well.
Same price at Central West, Braybrook too.
I'd buy one if they weren't seedless. Wish the major stores would sell the seeded varieties.
Problem with seedless is the majority aren't very sweet (compared to seeded varieties). When they're cut up you can get an idea from looks if they're sweet or not, whole not so.
