Which Nespresso Machine for beginner?

Hi, im new to the Nespresso game and am unsure which model to choose. Hoping to get some model recommendations from any kind Ozbargainers.

My requirements:

  • Includes a milk frother
  • Budget maximum $250—300
  • Can take generic Aldi pods or cheap pods
  • Easy to clean

Also, does the taste of coffee depend more on the price of the machine or coffee pods? Not sure if the most expensive Nespresso Machine will equate to great coffee since all the machines are using the same Nespresso pods.

Thanks!

Ive had both (Aldi-3years and Nespresso-2years), and in my opinion, the Nespresso coffee flavour, intensity etc is a bit better.
Granted, more expensive for the pods (10 for $7.00 ish vs 16 for $6.00 at Aldi), but I think you can taste the difference.

You wont find a machine that does the Aldi, and Nespresso pods. There are generics that will do Nespresso compatible, or Aldi compatible, but not both.
The Nespresso milk frother is hands down the best frother on the market IMO - which is why they are $100 on their own.

    Myer has a couple of decent specials, and this is a good starter machine - also has additional $40 cashback, or $65 off pods.;

As an alternate (if ongoing cost is of concern), you could start out with the Aldi unit and end up paying about the same.

    Good luck

Sunbeam make a multi capsule machine compatible with Nespresso®, Caffitaly®, Lavazza A Modo Mio® and Expressi® capsules.

Currently available with a bonus EM0180 Cafè Creamy™ Automatic Milk Frother and a $50 eftpos gift card.

      • Staff from TGG told me that machine is crap and do not get it, does anyone else own one?

nespresso machines can not use Aldi pods, just buy an alsi machine. Same goes with tha Alsi machine, it cant use Nespresso pods.
The Aldi unit (a black square stylish looking unit) works well, friends have one and it has been fine - and its cheap.

Most new Nespresso machines are also designed so you cant use other brand nespresso pods (breaks the mechanism or pin the pierces the pod) but Coles brand pods seem to work ($3.70 for 10).
I use Coles nespresso pods at work and they taste great, and roasted and made in Australia.
At home I have a full auto $1800 tha grinds beans, steam milk etc, but pods certainly are handy.

my opinion, buy the aldi machine for $80 and use their pods.

A $600 nespresso machine doesnt make better coffee than a $200 machine.

    • Thanks for the info, I didn't know Coles sold generic capsules until this thread.

      • Yep, we Buy them all the time and they are fine (and made roasted in Australia)
        Great price too.

In answer to the questions you've asked:

Hoping to get some model recommendations from any kind Ozbargainers.

for a new entrant, get the Inissia (or Pixie if reduced enough) during a cashback period and preferably with another special on top, eg. eBay 20% or Amex deal.

My requirements: - Can take generic Aldi pods or cheap pods

All Nespresso machines can take cheap Nespresso compatible pods but obviously not Aldi pods. If you really want Aldi coffee pods buy one of their machines or the Sunbeam mentioned by Elppa8.

does the taste of coffee depend more on the price of the machine or coffee pods?

the taste of coffee depends entirely on the pod and the amount & pressure/temp of water pushed through. Amongst Nespresso machines, the machine plays virtually zero part, if the machine is functioning properly. In some, it's easier to adjust water volume but they're all adjustable.

Not sure if the most expensive Nespresso Machine will equate to great coffee since all the machines are using the same Nespresso pods.

Correct. The only reason to buy the more expensive Nespresso machines is if you like the aesthetic styling or the way milk is delivered or you really like adjusting the amount of water on a regular basis.

  • buy a second hand aldi pod machine (plenty on ebay) and a milk warmer/frothing machine. they are inexpensive, easily less than $50 for the pair.

clean the machine out by running a 2:1 water/vinegar mix through the machine half a dozen times.

  • I spoke to a couple of Nespresso reps…truth is they all make the same coffee mainly just the design that's costing more…

  • Get the woolworths one
It was on sale the other week for $130 from 199

Basically the same as all other machines and has a range of pods you can use
