Headphone Recommendations - Primarily for PC & PS4 Gaming

Headphone shopping is really hard :/ so many choices to choose from…the more I read the more stuck on which way to go.

Firstly am undecided to go wireless or not. My budget is $300 MAX and not sure wether to get "gaming" headphones or go to a studio style headphone and get a ModMic for it (http://www.modmic.com/collections/modmic/products/modmic-4-0)

This previous post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/185025 had similar suggestions, my main problem is lack of been able to try any of the "gaming" headphones as they are not for testing.

Does anyone have the Logitech G933 Artemis and have anything to add, or even about the technical stuff of why gaming headsets are different and if that is better?

From reading heaps this is my short list:

Audio-Technica ATH-M50XMG $187.00 (wired)
SENNHEISER HD280 Pro $139.00 (wired)
SONY MDR-10RBT $260.00 (wireless but don't work with PS4)
Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum $229.00 (wireless gaming)
Steelseries H Wireless $378.00 (wireless gaming) - over the budget

Currently use the G933's and they're great. I don't use the LEDs and get a decent battery life throughout the day.

I originally bought the Steelseries H Wireless and they were great; main feature that appealed was easy to swap batteries. One is always charging while the other is in use.I swapped between the two as the steelseries were too small for my head.

I was looking for a reasonably comfortable headset with surround and have had good experience with G930's in the past.

    • thank you both for you input

    • Can you offer your comparison of the two, quality of sound and mic for example? Were the Steelseries just flexible enough to stretch into comfort and do you still have them and want to sell them?

      • I couldn't get them to comfortably fit, even had them stretching on a box. I read they can be bent/stretched alot without doing damage, it just needs to set in. I was able to get a refund at the time and picked up the G933's on the way home

I forked out $130-odd for the Kingston HyperX Cloud 2 headset just to use for gaming, and it is fantastic.

I've got proper studio cans around for the audio (hobby) work I do but i wanted a headset specifically for gaming that I could take with me on the road (so not super expensive) and this fits the bill perfectly.

Check out the reviews for this headset. It turns people into fans 99% of the time. And for the price it's unbeatable.

Great sound, comfy as anything, isolating, decent mic, solid construction. For gaming I wouldn't go past them. I'm a convert.

  • Ended up purchasing the Kingston HyperX Cloud II for $125 on eBay, couldn't justify the extra money for wireless.
