Koala Mattress $75 off (starting from $575)

60
WOMBAT75

This was part of the "April Fools" campaign, but I just checked randomly and the code is still valid. Not as good as $100 off but better than the generic $50.

I preordered the last batch and just got it 2 days ago. 1st night, didnt get much sleep as getting used to it, but it felt really comfortable last night.

looking for opinions from other users who had purchased this way earlier to see if it held up to the standard :)

  • Hi kza2610,

How does it feel? Would you describe the mattress as firm, medium, soft?

    Also, are there any smells/odour?
Being sensitive to odours, this is an important aspect.
I bought some (synthetic) latex ones from ikea - and the lingering odour/smell just would not go away. So a wasted mattress.

    Many thanks in advance.

If you're in Sydney you can try the mattress out at their "Treehouse".

I tried one out and found it a bit too soft. I would probably describe it as medium-soft. Their marketing line, that the mattress is neither soft nor firm is true up to a point - the mattress is more supportive than most soft mattresses, but if you're like me and like something very firm it won't suit. I bought a firm Chinese mattress instead for a lot less than most western brands - I'm very happy with that choice.

Keep in mind Koala do have a 120 night trial period, too.

      • Thanks for your input. It is very helpful. Also, there is a tendency for foam to get even softer as time goes by.

i would describe it as med soft when i first sat down on it my initial thought was 'soft' but when im lying down it feels like you are being slightly hugged by a marshmallow, but not in a suffocating way? :) felt quite comforting.

there was a slight styrofoamy smell when i first opened it, i ran my aircon for a while, put a fitted sheet on it and i dont seem to notice any smell at all right after that (will go have another smell after work and confirm!)

      • Thanks for any info. And yes, pls let me know if there is still smell.

If not too soft, and most importantly no smell, then I would consider it. It is really hard to find a suitable mattress.

          hi bluesky,

walked into my room, no smell. lied down on mattress with nose just above the sheet, no smell.

only when i shoved my face down into the mattress i could smell faintly the styrofoamy smell, so unless you sleep face down without a pillow , i wouldnt worry about the smell.

          hope that helps!

        • @kza2610: Thanks very much, appreciate it!

But LOL - shoving face down on mattress …

@bluesky: just wanted to cover all the bases! :D

        • @kza2610: Yeah, useful info, I do sleep on the side - so quite close to mattress, although with pillow :-)

I think the little koala is looking at the same things that drew my attention.

Can it levitate me like in the photo?

First they were using steel to make springs… Then they were cutting down forests making bamboo.
Now they are killing wildlife making Koala mattresses???? No thanks

Koalas sleep upto 22 hours a day, it's only logical that we harness this comfort for ourselves.

That guy looks like he's having bags of fun. And that woman has great, fun bags

    I'm banned forever, right?

    • Prepare for the PC police. You have to be subtle, like my comment above.

  • from $575? so you're paying more than competitors either way.

I wonder if they make nursery furniture, like a Quokka Rocker.

Please note my comments here about this company paying for positive reviews.
Personally I'd stay away and go with a company which is more clear about exactly what their mattresses are made of.

    • i wonder when they ll make me that offer :( although so far, so good for me. apparently they'll give you the card regardless of whether your review was good or not.

This mattress is fairly comfortable - one gripe I have is how hot it gets at night (with 2 people) we need the aircon running to compensate so it might not be the best choice if you hate a hot sleep.

    • ah! past two nights have been quite chilly so i havent noticed.

how is the no disturbance aspect going for you though? i can still feel my partners movements , but to be fair he does seem to BOUNCE when he rolls over in his sleep which was why i got this mattress mainly. so im not too sure if its the bed frame itself thats transferring the movement?

      • Could u please also try bouncing around a glass of wine? So curious…

Ive been using this mattress since the end of January. It's great. I intended on returning it within the trial, and try another brand.. but think i'll stick it with it. I haven't noticed any smells … and when my friends come over - its hard to get them out of the bed haha. If you double it up with quality sheets and doona, makes for quite the comfortable bed. I rate it 7/11.

      haha, 7/11 - that is 6.36 out of 10 :-)

when my friends come over - its hard to get them out of the bed haha

      friends with benefits?

  • Been researching beds for a while now as i need a new one. I hear these foam/latex/ tempur style beds are bad for the "good" kind of partner disturbance…

Shame cause its a good price.

Can't speak for the rest but after about 12 months the ergo flex mattresses just wear in to 2 big pits where you both sleep, only loosely shaped around youe body, just big holes really. Ends up being like a bridge seperating the 2 holes. I guess the bridge isn't insurmountable, but we haven't actually tried contacting each other over the bridge, instead opting for activities in either of the pits.

      • the reason why i chose koala, over ecosa, sleeping duck, greywing

other companies offered 100 day trial, koala offered 120 days

other companies offered 10 year warranty, koala offered 15 years (might not be around by then but fingers crossed! lol)

other companies warranty said that if mattress visibly sank below 28mm, 30mm thats claimable. however koala's warranty covers a 20mm indentation

if you are like me and would argue mountains to get my money back if im entitled to it, i will go through the processes needed. but if you are looking for a mattress that you dont mind replacing after a few years, there are cheaper options out there (ecosa?)

also, my purchase got a wild koala adopted! his name is O'Briens Freddo :)

        • I think you made the wrong choice, Ecosa is divine to sleep on and has the gel cooling layer.

        • +1

Hi my name is O'Briens Freddo, Im an alcoholic and have Chlamydia :D

  • Isn't this the company that 'pays' its customers to write favourable reviews online?

    • +1

I think so, really instills you with confidence, I'll take 50.

    • i would say more like an incentive to write a review about experiences. i think its quite common that we would put it way more effort to sign up to complain about something, than to sign up and comment favourably about a product. i havent gotten any such offers of payment or anything, just writing in based on my experiences :)

i would check whirlpool if you want a more honest 'unbiased' review.

    • I had purchased a mattress - they never offered monetary value in reviewing their mattresses - but they do email you maybe about once a month asking for a review?

  • After much research on these type mattresses, I bought an Ecosa mattress, I have also tried laying on the Koala mattress. The Ecosa mattress is made of much denser foam, has a gel cooling layer and a pinhole latex topsheet all bundled in a silky soft cover that is rubberised on the bottom for grip, and won the test. I have never been so happy with a purchase in my life, sound sleep and no achy joints when I wake. Apparently they are pretty close to a Tempur. I have a referal code hanging about if anyone wants $50 off (i am not sure on referral code rules so I havent posted it, but will if people are OK with that.

    • i was considering ecosa as it was cheaper than koala, but the warranty for visible dipping over 35mm threw me off, think it was the highest one out of the boxed mattresses i looked at.

      • all i know is that i slept like a baby last night and I am pretty sure I woke in the same position I went to sleep in. Loving it :)
