Wi-Fi Hot Spot for Business

We recently bought a food business. Now we are trying to build a coffee shop.

With a cafe I believe Free Wi-Fi is a must. However, I was trying to find out a cheap but reliable service like Telstra AIR. When I looked about it I was told they don't offer it for business. Its kind of stupid that it is only available for personal users even though small business uses the same telephone line and probably pay more.

Does anyone have any other opinions? I good at technical stuff but afraid about the Privacy Policy etc., for setting up free wifi.

      I had double checked with them but they said their exchange is like 5km away from my place. So the internet speed will be slow and they wouldn't offer the free wifi thing.

        Hmm so if the exchange is that far then it means any adsl providers are out, so then you're onto mobile broadband.

        Or, honestly, I'd say it's a non-issue. In 12 months time, high data plans will be common-place (they sorta are now anyway). Having wifi is not a necessity, and I could argue that you could be one of the cafes suggesting that people put down their phones and talk.

        Also, is your cafe in the cbd or suburbia? Like what sort of clientele do you expect, families, locals, or business people? Business people are the only people that would whinge about a lack of wifi, the others wouldn't care.

        But in all honestly, I'd be promoting your cafe as one that wants people to talk, not to sit by themselves on laptops or on their phones.

        Just my $0.02, I was a Barista by trade for 5+ years in varying cafes (from the gourment local where you knew the locals by name, to a very busy mainstream cafe).

    its a system where they setup a tv screen in the cafe which shows ads and it includes free wifi for your customers. they may even pay you money for having the screen installed in the cafe. can't exactly comment on how it works as I've only used the free wifi before.
