2007 Nissan X Trail 200k Km on Clock, Auto Gear Problem ?

Hi OzBargain Mechanics

Wondering if someone can give me some advise.

Im shopping around for a cheap SUV and happened to find a 2007 Nissan X Trail T31 Turbo Diesel with 200,000 km on clock.

When changing Auto gear from P to D, you can feel a slight forward Jerk in the car and same from D to R or R to D

The owner admitted to some recent problems in the gear box and in his words he said "the gear feels like its slipping at times"

Any idea what may be the problem ? Transmission, Wheel Bearings etc

Any advise would be appreciated.

I did negotiate the price down to 5K with 1 year rego

Cheers

Probably the transmission. I have 2009 petrol cvt/auto and was told my transmission needed replacing, I was quoted $6750. My advice is don't touch it.

    • the CVT has problems apparently.

The Transmission on the Diesel models are True Automatic

      • I believe the early versions of CVT where problematic.

Why are you considering a car like this? No love for Honda Crv?

  • Did you check the level and colour of the transmission fluid? Clunk when changing gear and slipping can be an indication of poor quality (old) or insufficient trannie fluid.

These symptoms can also be indicative of more sinister issues. Probably best to have a mechanic look over it.
